Trevor-- abusive? Not really. I only say what others are thinking but are too diplomatic to say: you don't know wtf you are talking about. If you can't take a bit of frank criticism, then you need to toughen up that skin of yours a bit. ;) As for music, I've posted an "OK" amount of my own. I'm not exactly prolific, it's true, but if you want "put up or shut up" it's not like I hide behind the interweb. Regardless of whatever you may think of the few tracks I keep online (the others are filled with profanity and 'adult' themes so I keep them off the net most of the time lest my students get their hands on them, which is a scare I only want to have lived through once) may be found at gregpettit.wusik.com . The "TonePort Blues" track isn't meant to be a song so much as a demonstration of a few tones available with TonePort. Rhythms, solos, and bass tones all done with TonePort. The "Come Over" song was intentionally "silly" and a little bit old-school sounding due to the theme of the monthly contest it was entered for, so leave those kinds of criticisms out of it. The telecaster tone for the solo isn't bad, and was done with Simulanalog.

It's a red herring anyhow-- I don't mind answering it because I see it for what it is, which is a mere diversionary tactic. You don't need to have published even a single song, NOR even be a guitar player to know that Warp VST is considered one of the worst amp sims ever. And if Warp is your standard by which others are judged, I maintain that you have a tin ear and/or poor taste.

Wow... I've abused you again... call the mods, call the mods....

..you could prolly combine the 2 i've found tht having a foundation good tone and not straight D.I makes sims sound more real...

Right, and you can't come up with a link.

I checked your stats Greg. Almost ten thousand posts. TEN THOUSAND. I've like twenty. I come here when I think others can provide me whith helpful information. Then it's back to the trenches

You don't spend your time making music, you spend your time here putting others down and bragging about your huge breadth of knowledge, which you obvioulsy don't use.

Well - I decided to record a tune using the Xamp and the JVM900 - 2 stereo tracks of each.

It's still not "there" after much tweaking, but I'll have to admit - it's better than I thought it could be.

Still - is it as good as the real thing? Nope. You can only f**k and filter something to death so many times. I still just can't get those big "stanking" Boogie BALLS I'm so happy with. It's still easier just to turn on the 57 and let her fukkin' rip. :D

you couldn't be more wrong. post counts mean nothing. but it's funny that you reference it as if we couldn't see it for ourselves? why?

you cannot discredit someone who has made friends and helped tons of people, no matter how you try, so you should probably stop. if you have a personal problem with him it's between the two of you and not about his track record, post count, or music he makes.

greg is a cool hepcat. he's helped me quite a lot. just an fyi.

time to go back to your trench?

or click here if you really want to find some distortions / amp sims to try out.
And while you're at it, please add your review in the KVR knowledge database.

As Bert subtly points out... the link is right there... dumbass.

And yes, I spend more time on KvR than I do spend recording music. :P A common affliction.

Sounds like you just come here to leach info, but dont actually contribute anything to the community.
you spend your time here putting others down and bragging about your huge breadth of knowledge, which you obvioulsy don't use.
No he doesnt. He takes part in the community, provides some decent banter, a fair bit of useful info, and a pretty reasonable attitude. But then you wouldnt know that, since all you've done is turn up to proclaim your particular insight of the week as though it was in any way important or relevant to anyone else at all.

Back on topic. Software has achieved decent guitar distortion. Guitar Rig and AmpSim are fuckin' excellent and to the best of my knowledge have been used on heaps of commercial recordings, especially AmpSim...

So f**k you.

What exactly is AmpSim? Can't find it in the database.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

I suspect hoffy means Amp Farm. ;) Also not in the database, mind you.

I suspect he's got some superior knowledge them, by claiming this and that has been used on "heaps of commercial recordings" without even actually knowing the product name.

I'm going to have to go with a 20 year old frozen Pearl Light. That's about all I can offer at this time. :(
