I am looking for the simplest VSTi sampler with a browser

John Vulich: thanks for that recommendation but rewire is not my thing and I would not call reason a simple sampler.

Dasdeck: that is cool. Basically, a sampler that just loads WAVs and has a builtin in file browser with autoplay. Nothing else hehe. Even no need for pitch shift.

PTV: EnergyXT is pretty sweet but again I would not call this a minimalistic sampler.

Architeuthis: Shortcircuit looks sweet even though I don't need all these features. So does the currecnt version come with a browser?

Post

honestly your best bet is that sfz app that they mentioned.. it might not have a browser at hand but it's only one click away as a pop up window to select another sample.. best thing about it is it's free.. and very cpu light.

I would go with Image Line DirectWave if I was you. ShortCircuit1 is expensive and still needs a lot of work to be as perfect as DirectWave, but how it is now, I believe it is much more flexible than DirectWave. I have no idea how SC2 will turn out. SC1 can't import anything 100% correctly, but the developer is working hard on all its problems and needed features for SC2. SC1 is no longer in development.

The current version does not come with a browser. But does the browser in DirectWave have autoplay features? :?

This should do the trick... :-)

LTP. :-)
This would do the trick if there was a built-in browser :(
grab a copy of tackybrowser from modulR's site. it's just that. stand alone, and supports preview and drag and drop. problem sorted, for free.

how complex do you need your browser?
the one im working on (already have) has a dir chooser like the synthedit ones, and you can skip throug the wavs from that folder. must it be explorer like or waht?
auto preview should be a breaze.
it may take some time thought. you could still geve me a detailed (and i mean detailed) wishlist and i might slap something together for you.

cheers

it's already made, by modulR not using SE called tackybrowser. it's great! try it out :) of course this doesn't mean you should stop, keep doing your thing.

Thanks for that tip, that is actually a very nice idea.

Even though it does not have a browser, discoDSP HighLife is a powerful and simple sampler. It's often overlooked and not expensive. It's even currently on sale.

discodsp:

Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'

Include file not found

/Index.asp, line 1

The include file '../head.inc' was not found.

i can't even get to it to see the price.. how much?

I would recommend DirectWave too, it's pretty easy to us, powerful if you ever want to go bayond just playback eventually and supports all major formats.

Simple, built in browser, and light on cpu. Anytime I need something like that the sampler in FL Studio does the trick (the fl sampler, not direct wave). I also have Direct Wave, but with how I sample the Fruity sampler does the trick and overall is a bit faster. For 150 dollars you get a simple sampler, a slicer, and the audio clips....the sampler also has time stretch. That's a whole lot of sampling for a small price and a small cpu hit as well.

It's currently $39, there seems to be a problem with their main page but I just used the direct link to HighLife's page in the thread where they announce the sale and it worked:

Also if you have no need for the sequencing in FL you can get the $50 version.

yeah i'm using shortcircuit coupled with tackybrowser. supports drag and drop from tacky to sc, very nice.

I don't know, the NN19 Sampler is pretty simple IMO.

Anyway, as I indirectly implied in my first response, you are gonna have a hard time finding a "simple" sampler that has a browser with autoplay. Any sampler with these features is bound not to be simple by the very inclusion of those features. I'm not sure that there is that many sampler with built in browsers anyway... yet alone autoplay.

Depending on how attached you are to your host, and how important these features are, you may want to check out Ableton Live. It has a browser, with autoplay, and a very simple sampler called Simpler. You can drag and drop samples right onto Simpler and adjust the start, end and loop length, including crossfading.

yeha i know tacky browser, however, i'll make a sampler with browser , not just a browser.
nothing spectacular, just to speed up my workflow.
