use microsoft visual basic 2005 express edition .. it's free, and deadnuts simple. what languages do you know already? for gui you dont need anything fancy for a 'tool' ... windows look and feel is just fine IMO.
*edit* woops that's for learjeff.

Yep, it does create sf2s from scratch if you use its hardware or vsti converter to record the samples themselves. *But* if you already have a bunch of wav files recorded that you want to map up in a sf2, EXSC can't help you there.learjeff wrote: Folks above mention that EXSC doesn't create soundfonts, but I believe it now does -- at least, according to their website

Jeremy,
I concur. I never wanted Awave or Vsampler to CREATE sf2s - just to create multi-bank and multi-instrument sf2s.
I am going to use Sound Forge for sampling, as I have been, and loop creation.
I am going to use Manymapper for mapping the samples.
I am going to use ESC to convert to individual sf2s
I am going to use Vsampler 3.5, among other things, to convert to the above mentioned multi-bank/multi instrument sf2s.
Why so many steps. Because after I create Wusiksnd files, I cam release any product I make for many many formats by converting what I am doing.
Why SF2s? Because several synths I am making samples for uses them. Because I will be making my own synths and I will use a combo of either wavs or sf2s, have not decided yet.

Grymmjack,
Tried Alive and would not work for me - my EMU 1820M will not support Sound Fonts natively - that's why I need something like Vsampler. This would all be a moot point if I was using a sound blaster. However, my mid-priced EMU replaced my HIGH END MOTU hardware multitrack recording solution - and added higher bit rates, appogee filters, neutrik connectors and DSP on board to the mix. For a sixth of the price. However, it does not do Sound Fonts.
ESC and Vsampler can play them regardless of sound card (as can vsti's that use them).

Mike,
Once again, try the Soundfont Librarian. Its free and does exactly what you want, works with any soundcard.
I got it here:

And if you would be content with Vienna, I still think Viena should do it...
And Sf2Patcher seems like a nice bonus.

Jeremy,
Thanks. I am downloading it now. I already bought Vsampler (it's sweet anyway - has a ton of uses. I HATE Kontakt 2 for sampling - what a pain in the butt that program is. Vsampler looks really easy to use.

Jeremy,
Same problem. You try to set the MIDI in and sound card drivers and it says no drivers installed. This is NOT a driver issue. EMU says quite clearly in their Knowledge base (www.emu.com) that NO soundfont program will work with the 1820M or most current higher end solutions from them.
Thanks anyway. Vsampler will work fine for me.

Mike,
You don't need Midi In. Just open a soundfont, drag patches from it into the 'untitled' soundfont that opens automatically. Now save the new soundfont as your new bank soundfont!
I think midi in is only needed if you want to audition the soundfonts or somesuch.

Oh, so in other words, it's using a proprietary format, not soundfont, and is therefore worthless to those of us who use soundfonts? And isn't "Vsampler" a soundfont program?Karmacomposer wrote:Same problem. You try to set the MIDI in and sound card drivers and it says no drivers installed. This is NOT a driver issue. I really don't understand what you're trying to say. No matter to me since I don't have an EMU.
And I think you misinterpreted Jeremy's post: are you aware of the difference between "vienna" and "viena"? The latter requires no soundcard.

I don't know about Vienna or Viena - I didn't talk about either of those programs. Just Soundfont Librarian, which is a simple program meant to organize sf2s into larger bank-style sf2s. I used it for this purpose waaay back in the late 90s, and it still works fine today (just tried it)
It doesn't rely on your soundcard whatsoever.
