that'll do fine! i think 24db is butterworth *almost* perfect compromise for me in the low end, beyond that and the ringing on kick drums bugs me too much. but i think a chebyshev type 2 like in waves ren has the tightest phase response doesnt it? along with not so deep attenuation in the stop band?Christian Budde wrote: *EDIT:*
The S-Plane butterworth/chebyshev filters are already done with arbitraty order (it was too easy). However, this only works in the linear phase mode.
For the digital/analog mode I've just implemented 24dB/oct butterworth filters. Is this enough, or do you need more?
Christian
thanks.

Maybe I should also consider to implement a bessel filter. These have nearly linear phase in the passband. I don't know how that may effect the ringing, but it's at least nice to have.martian wrote:that'll do fine! i think 24db is butterworth *almost* perfect compromise for me in the low end, beyond that and the ringing on kick drums bugs me too much. but i think a chebyshev type 2 like in waves ren has the tightest phase response doesnt it? along with not so deep attenuation in the stop band?Christian Budde wrote: *EDIT:*

Chebyshev type1/type2 filters will also be implemented, but I guess not until next month,

more the merrier, but im more interested in the stop band. if i hp at 60hz its material just below that rings.
just tried waves ren and that hp is a bit tighter sounding at 24db, and even up to 36db. so yes that'd be my favourite now for the low end. heres a 36db/oct -3 at 60hz shot, although i think your analyser dont like waves and it seems to display bandwidth wrong for any bell setting compared to use in a host, the hp seems to read more correct though (?).

amazing how musical ren still is for such an old digital eq (symetrical bell, tight hp, defalts to wide boost narrow cut, low cpu, simple gui).

confirmed, it's the same with any other host. I will fix it ASAP,martian wrote:bug: if i hit the eco switch in lin phase mode sx crashes

First :
great EQ, nice Work !
Using it in SX 3.1, and Samplitude 8.31.
A few issues / questions / suggestions :
Can't find an easy way to reset the gain, of a single node.
Two or more selected nodes can easily be resetted,
but a single ... ?
Is a Fine / Coarse switch ( via shift ), for the mouse wheel, on the 'to do' list ?
( .. alt does something similar, but it's hard to control ... )
Analyzer settings are not stored in presets ?!
Any plans for an additional adjustable Analyzer Gain ?
Auto gain for Analyzer can slow down workflow.
Also,
it would be quite irritating, if the visible Level Range would be changed according to the signal.
For reliable reading, at least the range should be fixed ( better : adjustable ).
... and 1+ for a faster response.
Do nodes with 0db gain, use CPU ?
Thanks, Jan

Ok, in the next intermediate release there will be a shift+doubleclick to reset a single band. However the next major update for any usability related thing will be with version 1.6. Right now there are too many shortcuts and some of them are even twice. With that update we will make all shortcuts customisable and with that clean-up some other stuff._dada_ wrote:A few issues / questions / suggestions :

What's wrong with [ALT]+mousewheel? It works perfect on my machine._dada_ wrote:Is a Fine / Coarse switch ( via shift ), for the mouse wheel, on the 'to do' list ?( .. alt does something similar, but it's hard to control ... )
Some people prefer the settings to be stored in a preset, others like it to be global. As far as I remeber the setting is stored in the preset, but not loaded. Maybe I should make it customizable as well._dada_ wrote:Analyzer settings are not stored in presets ?!
The analyser will receive a major update with version 1.7, I guess. Some minor issues can be fixed with the next intermediate release. I'll see what I can do here._dada_ wrote:Any plans for an additional adjustable Analyzer Gain ?

Yes and in 'analog' mode they do also effect the sound. In case of 'gain' in 'analog' mode, it is a single op-amp make-up module introducing a tiny ammount of non-linearities (like real hardware). Alternatively you can bypass the filter or remove it (by hitting [del])._dada_ wrote:Do nodes with 0db gain, use CPU ?

Just uploaded the 1.5.4beta version.
Changes:
- 'Linear Phase' economy works again
- Butterwoth filters implemented (24 dB/Oct, 48 dB/Oct)
- shift+doubleclick to reset a single band
- analyser has a popup menu (right click [input]/[output])
-> adjustable FFT size
-> adjustable Speed
-> currently very early beta, doesn't saves that yet

Thanks for the quick reply, Christian !
have to take a closer look ....
Will check the new beta ...
Would it be hard work, to 'auto - bypass' them, in Digital mode ??
I own many EQs. Still looking for the 'fast and easy general purpose, low CPU' EQ.
I think, Electi-Q is the solution ( ... and sure enough, it can do a lot more ... ).
But, bypass and reactivate, takes too long.
[del], can not be used in SX ( the node is deleted, but also the selected track or part ).
bye, Jan

AFAIR the mousewheel gets disabled, after releasing the Alt key ...Christian Budde wrote:What's wrong with [ALT]+mousewheel? For me 'global' or 'preset' would be fine, but in SX it never remembers it's on/off or Input/output settings, on a new instance.Christian Budde wrote:Some people prefer the settings to be stored in a preset, others like it to be global._dada_ wrote:Analyzer settings are not stored in presets ?!

Argh, damn shortcut overrides. That was the reason, why I doubled the [CTRL]+Z to 'U' to perform an undo._dada_ wrote:[del], can not be used in SX ( the node is deleted, but also the selected track or part ).
Christian
P.S.: I havn't changed something in combination with saving the analyser state in the beta yet.

Got your PM. I was away over the weekend, so there was no development. I've just started to work on the next version again._dada_ wrote:Any news ?
Did You see my PM, Christian ?
Expect the update within the next two days.

I just want to let you know, that we released the version 1.5.4 of the Electri-Q today. It took a little bit longer due to the hot weather here in germany.
Changes:
- linear phase mode now works above 44100Hz
- CPU Performance improved for all Butterworth filter.
- analyzer enhanced ->right click Input/Output button for options
- analyzer options can be saved globally (saving within the preset will be available with 1.6 in the near future)
- shift+right click on filter band launches a popup menu sorted by type instead of category

Kind regards,
Christian
