Jorgen, you are a coding maniac (in the best way possible)

Maybe i'm just a fool not seing the big picture, but it doesn't look like a feature i'd use...

Overlay midi tracks though.....

im hoping you can do both....this would open up the most innovation...i too, would like to be able to see a midi over midi overlay which to me would be a godsend for melody and even rhythm track creation.....im curious as to how that would work as far as which midi part from which vsti etc....i.e. if you drag a midi clip from midi track 1 which is assigned to say albino 3 to overlay (or 'under' lay) midi track 2 which is assigned to say lounge lizard or whatever, without having to re route vsti's? will the midi parts have to be adjusted when overlayed or will the overlay itself be like a 'ghost' of the original midi?

If I'm not too late I'd like to vote for this. (or even keys to JUMP to a layer)
It would allow you to see several tracks at once and quickly edit the one you want.

Kind of goes back to that old discussion of using good ideas from photoshop in music software.

disturb, I already gave 1 example of where it would be handy, and all you need to do is take that example and expand it to other possibilities.

But, you might be right-- you might never use it! I DEFINITELY would, and I think others would, too. That's a good enough reason to add, no?

Looks pretty, I wonder about overlaying audio on audio though? (and how about drum tracks? ;))

yeah ... some form of transparency / colour differentiation would be needed there ...
glurgle wrote:(and how about drum tracks? ;))
at first i thought 'good point' but now im not so sure ... if youre using the drum track grid you probably wont want to match to audio (and matching to MIDI should already be obvious enough) ... on the other hand and assuming you can adjust the drum track grids resolution and snap you could still usefully overlay it onto audio to borrow grooves from loops or match rhythm to existing audio ...

Didn't mean to be an ass sorry...

I just really want the midi overlay thingie...

About midi overlay in the separate editor :
Maybe there could be a panel (like the event list) that could display all midi tracks in the seq (the possibility to separately display/edit different channels on the same track would be handy too) ; and tickboxes for each lane would select which one to display/edit.
When it comes to editing different layers, i don't like the idea of directly jumping to a layer by clicking one of its contained notes (ala phrazor) cause when you want to add the exact same note on another track, it jumps to that track instead...

and obviously overlaying sliced audio onto a drum track to get timings right WOULD be useful anyway ...

and just for mischief let me add ...
in another hosts forum in OCTOBER 2005 pHz wrote: ... a couple of other hints ...

... as an alternative (and thanks to T2s transparent clips IMHO slightly easier) way of getting your MIDI file for the sampler to play you can do the following BEFORE you slice your audio loop ...

... also ... remember ... colour coding clips is your friend when manually slicing / rearranging audio loops (here ive coded kick / snare / closed hat / open hat) ...

... looks pretty too ...

It's great that it looks like it's now implemented in XT2. I'm really impressed by that.

I'm interested to see how far it's been taken - but I guess I'll find out one of these days.

Personally, I think when we've finally worn ourselves out from excitement of waiting for XT2 and are totally defenceless, that's when jorgen will dump the BETA on us and we'll all immediately fall unconscious from the shock. :)

As long as jorgen absentmindedly drops a drumtrack screenshot...

edit: although really, I'd want to overlay audio on drum tracks all the time, for stealing grooves etc... especially if we are getting visual feedback on how MIDI grooves affect MIDI/drum/audio parts.
