War Stories on the road (gigging with Receptor in extremes)

Hi Everyone,

Just to increase everyone's "feel good" meters about using Receptor for gigging, I thought I'd pass along this story ....

Many are you are aware that California has been having an unusual heat-wave these past few days. Yesterday I had an outdoor gig, playing for 4 hours in Hollister, Ca. The temparature was 115 degrees Fahrenheit. I had my receptor mounted in a Gator Studio 2 go hardshell case. Receptor was perfectly stable in said temps, not a glitch (that's more than can be said for the other players in the group! :D ).

I use the Receptor and two Midi keyboard controllers, alongside a Yamaha S80, and a Roland XP80. Both the Yamaha and Roland were running quite hot, and verging on thermal shutdown. In a previous similar heat situation, I have had the Roland shutdown (thermal protection circuitry cuts off power) in the middle of a performance.

Kudos to the Muse team on thermal design! As well, there is something to be said for playing Midi Controllers out in the heat, where there are no large current draws thru transformers to heat up those boards. I'm also curious how a laptop might have held up thru the same situation.

Regards,
Kevin L.

We just did two shows at the Hollywood Bowl in the midst of this infernal heat. The Receptor was powered up from line check at about 1PM until after showtime, and much of that time the keyboard rack was in direct sun. I kept checking the heat coming off fan in the back - scorching - but no problems whatsoever. Very impressive.
