About that pop/noise bug when changing patches. All pops I've noticed so far are generated by the shape3 and shape4.
Even if if you turn down the input volume on that module to zero it'll generate a pop when activated (no modulations activated).

Thanks - I'll have a look once I get back home (@ work right now).Frettchen wrote:"Documents and Settings\<user name>\LocalSettings\ApplicationData\Sony\ACID Pro\6.0"
File vst_grovel.log contains result of vst scanning.
Hope you find it. I translated the path from my german WinXP, the part up to \Sony is localized for different Windows versions.

Well, ACID 6.0a runs without *any* problems on my machine. Scans and loads Zebra2 and Filterscape just fine...
Peter reported the same thing, yet Spritex and I experienced this problem with Z2 (I'm glad Spritex confirmed it as I would be wondering what's wrong on my PC) and Frettchen too, albeit briefly(!).
As soon as I get home, I'll take a long look at my ACID 6.0a settings. Did you just use the out-of-the-box ones?

Yeah, just plain installed it, launched it, set the plugin path, scanned, made a simple project with 1x Z2, quit, launched again, quit, launched again, quite, put the new build into the directory, launched... all fine...Mies wrote:Urs wrote:]Well, ACID 6.0a runs without *any* problems on my machine. I guess there must be some side effect with drivers, other vsts, whatever... dunno...
Mailed Peter about it, let's see what he's got to say...
Cheers,

Mind you, I don't have any other VSTi's in the directory when I test the ACID trial.
Both the Z2 from last page and the first GUI fixed SSE version get stuck similarly at "loading Zebra2.dll".
The trial version I have is ACID Pro 6.0a (build 263). Downloaded from their site.

Hmmm, yep, same here... just no issues...spritex wrote:Mind you, I don't have any other VSTi's in the directory when I test the ACID trial.

Let's see... some wild suspicions...
What samplerate/buffersize do you start with?
What's your screen resolution and colour depth?
Have you had to install .NET Framework 1.1?
Do you have some fancy characters in the path to your documents directory?
Well, I don't think any of these make any difference, but well, why not check it out...

Samplerate 44,1kHz
Buffersize 256 samples
(those are from the M-Audio Audiophile ASIO driver)
Screen resolution 1280x960 32 bit
I have .NET framework 1.1 installed (with some hotfix)
What documents dir do you mean?
Anyway, I can do some testing here too...

Okay, this is pretty strange but might help you:
In ACID, if Zebra2 folder is in the default Windows VSTplug folder, ACID hangs up at start.
This happens even if I move everything else away from the default Windows VSTplug folder!
If I put the Zebra2 outside that folder and specify the new location in ACID preferences all is well. No matter if there is other stuff in the default Windows VSTi folder or not.
Note that ACID seems to scan the default Windows VSTi folder even if it is not specified in ACID preferences (as "Default VSTi search folder").

THAT'S IT!
If you put Zebra2 into the "Default VST search folder" path in ACID Preferences -> VST Effects BEFORE starting ACID it tries to scan it in startup and hangs up.
If you put it there while ACID is running and then do a scan from that Preferences windows it hangs up for a while but eventually the list is completed and Zebra2 is unchecked in the FX list (but it shouldn't probably even show up there). You can still have it in the VSTi list and all is well!
I don't know why is this, maybe ACID doesn't understand that Zebra2 isn't an effect or something?
Anyway, this fix seems to solve the problem in the meantime, doesn't it?
I can open/close ACID without hitches and Zebra2 is always there to be used. And I can even have the same folder for VSTi and VSTfx (as long as you do the scanning trick the fist time).
BTW, ACID is the first host where I've seen separate settings for VSTi and VSTfx paths.

Wowowow... that's interesting...
... cool, I'll try to reproduce it now based on that info.
Thanks + laters,
Urs

I hope that once you sort these nasty Windows bugs out this time, you'll have it easier with the Windows version in the future... I bet you'd rather tinker with the synth engine.

i'm finding that if i load several Z2's in eXT that by the 3'rd one i load some patches kill the sound all together from that instance of Z2

not very consistent, but if you have a few playing looped midi riff's & add another & start flicking through presets it should happen
unless its only me?

A similar thing can happen in Logic - even with TWO instances of Zebra2, but changing the "process buffer range" from "small" to "medium" (in Logic's Audio Driver 2 preferences) helped. I also got some very nasty audio noise in occasion, BTW. But I blame Logic mostly, since it's so old on PC - the "small" setting isn't probably very good idea.
In eXT there is directly no such setting or at least I can't find it. What is your ASIO buffer size? If it's awfully small perhaps you could raise it and try again?
I can do some testing with eXT too, but I think that I had at least 3 instances playing without problems. (My ASIO DMA buffer is currently at 256.)
