of course the attack is 'poppy', its set to 200us. it wouldnt be if it were set to 1ms or so. i love that fast attack sound on a gate. i've used a few software gates which wont let you have the classic gate behaviour like in mine, that is why i wrote it.

the rectifier on the input should be a typical one with two opamps, i was just trying to save an opamp. here it works out to 7 opamps anyway because i removed another, and if you want stereo operation you need to use both of the lm13700 and an extra opamp as a buffer on it. so the extra one for a proper rectifier evens it out.
two tl074, one lm13700, some transistors, diodes and you have a gate.
circuit values are not perfect, i havent built the entire thing, only tested individual modules at a time.
