What ciFiArtMan want is a vibrato plugin where vibrato depht can be controlled with a midi controller signal.
And if it is guitar vibrato it should only go positive because you can only bend the strings up when doing it on the fretboard, like this ^^^^^
You're right on about what I'm looking for! And as correct as your point is about note bending vibrato only going UP in pitch, I also use a whammy bar which often goes boths ways. So a standard VIBRATO effect would fit my needs - one that can have the depth controlled by the mod wheel of my controller.

I've managed to get some pretty good lead guitar sounds from Synth1 and that solves my problem to some degree, but I'm still searching for better lead guitar tones and would like to add a little gradual vibrato to some chording in Slayer 2, as well. I just need CONTROL when simulating e-guitar!

Thanks everyone!

Sorry IIRs, I missed your post somehow. This looks like exactly what I was looking for! Good looking GUI too! I'll give it a try and report back how it works (just so you know). Thank you!

Hey IIRs. The Vibrator was a beautiful sounding vibrato effect with a clean clear sinewave modulation. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get the mod wheel to activate it. I tried Slayer 2.5.3 (GTR Sim), Mellowsound (Mellotron sim), and GTG SF Synth 3.1 (Soundfont player). Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but the only way I could actiavte the effect was to turn the Vibrator Mod Wheel switch Off, with the Power On.

I placed it in the audio effect area of the audio channel of the active MIDI track (Cakewalk Sonar PE5) like I would for any effect VST. Any ideas on what I did wrong or how this unit can be activated via the mod wheel?

Thanks.

Not really no, I don't know Sonar... check the MIDI is routed correctly I suppose. Works fine in Tracktion ;)

Rerun the VST-DX wrapper, change the Properties for the plugin so that its listed as a synth and then insert it into an effects slot. You should then be able to point a MIDI track at it.

Just another 2 cents to throw in: doesn't the pitch wheel allow you to bend AND vibrate? Just wiggle your finger on the wheel, like you'd do with a string. It takes some practice, but that's the way Jan Hammer and plenty of other keyboard players emulation guitar are doing it for ages. And there are not that many synths that don't respond to the pitch wheel.

This sounds MUCH more natural than any vibrato (pitch shift) effect, since it's totally human controlled and does not suffer from audible artefacts typically found in pitch shifting. No need to set an LFO speed, you're doing it yourself. Just like on a real guitar, you're totally in control.

If you have difficulties moving the pitch wheel up instead of down, MidiOx allows you to reverse the pitch wheel action.

That sounds like a viable solution! I'll give it a try. Thanks!

That technique doesn't work for me for several reasons. The first being I'm a long time keyboard player and have the mod wheel use down to a minor art. Second, the pitch wheel range may be set differently for different patches and remembering what patch is set to what range would be imprectical when a simple rolling of a wheel can achieve better results. And finally it just doesn't sound nearly as good or natural as the smooth flow into an LFO vibrato. I know you say it does, but it doesn't. I actually DO use this technique sometimes, but overall it's just not nearly as good as the mod wheel for these and other reasons.

I'm very influenced by Jan Hammer's lead style (see the solo at the end of my "Big Boots" tune). But his synth technique is right for HIM. Thanks for your input and helpful suggestion though.

Yep, each to their own technique...

but nothing stops you from changing that in the patch and save it ;-)

Well yes, something stops me, the fact that the pitch has been set for the way I intend to use the pitch wheel, not for mod wheel effects. There is another wheel set aside for adding modulation, and it's called the mod wheel - I intend to use it. The solution is to find a device to achieve the missing effect, not affect not my playing style for it. Yes, I always have "wiggling the pitch wheel" as a back up plan, and the reason I started this thread in the beginning.
