Don't know if this question is still outstanding or even still matters but the answer is no, I don't have this problem w/ ACID.

Regarding the disappearing sound, crackles:

Problem is that it's so vague that sometimes everything seems ok but at some other session it's not.

I am now wondering if it's just that certain hosts (or host versions) handle CPU spikes better than others and not really a Zebra2 problem at all (well, it causes the spikes but you know what I mean)...

Post

Yes spritex, i think the same thing.

Post

Well, *if* it is related to cpu spikes at all...

So, am I right that this is a new phenomenon which hasn't occurred with older versions of Zebra or even Filterscape (if you had gotten into that before)?

I'm thinking of reworking the whole engine in a way that it uses less memory now... I mean, every instance is about 20MB because all modules take up a certain amount of RAM, especially the oscillators and some effects. This has obviously caused hassle on some Macs and it may also be a problem on PC, maybe even the cause for your experiences, i.e. if memory is paged out to the hard drive. A typical patch can probably cope with just 4-6 MB of memory, so I think I could work something out to allocate memory dynamically. But well, this *has* to happen after release and be checked out thoroughly with some brave volunteers...

So, now on to the daily dose of actual work beyond emails...

Later,

I for one didn't do extensive multi-instance testing in energyXT with the earlier Z2 prerelease version, so I am not sure if it is a new phenomenon or not.

I think that you can release the thing with a good conscience after you are done with the bugs in your list.

Of course you can count on us with testing later too.
I have 1 GB RAM, by the way, so I don't think that this glitch-problem is memory related, but who knows. Also, it can happen with only 3 instances in energyXT.

When I get home from my parents' next week, I think it's a good idea to test energyXT with heavy usage of some _other_ VSTi's. AND test the older Zebra2 build as well... Feel free to do that too, you others :-)

Okay, here's the latest:

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=143861

Briefly tested them, but as there's no change in the VST/AU/Mac/Win Layers - just fixes in modules - there should not be any new weirdness. I hope.

Cheers,

Well, sorry, but the ring-module really sounds weird now. Started creating a preset with the ringmod yesterday and with today's version it sounds totally different, lots of crackles and definitely worse than before. Besides that, the new build loks good so far.

Cheerio,

Oh, just found another weird one.
Do the following:
-create a new preset, activate an oscillator, set it to Spectroblend and draw some partials in it so you can hear a sound
-now go to osc fx section and choose "Expander" for FX1, no need to set a value, you can leave it to the default value
-now for FX2 choose either Expander, Scrambler, Symmetry, Sync Mojo or Fractalz and set a value for it
-now protect your ears before playing a note because you'll most likely only hear a very loud, distorted noise, and if not, just dial in some random value for FX2, should get nasty quickly

Sorry for disturbing your weekend Urs, blame it on me if your girl gets angry!

Ciao,
Thomas

do you mean spectromorph or spectroblend?

With Spectroblend and a few partials, and an expander at 0 on OSCFX1 and an expander on OSCFX2 turned to the negative it does make a terrible speaker killing screech.

Spectromorph was fine...

Post

Yeah, ring mod is crackling for me too.

Annoying reset of Delays etc. in loops (too dumb playback start detection)- FIXED?
No Fixed here

Arp/Envelope Release bug: Reason detected, must find concept - FIXED!
Work fine here!!!

Then I've loaded a project with one instance that have an accord on the piano roll, when I started the loop the sound gone to a full 0db square, I've stopped for two times then I've restarted and all is gone ok.
Here's modules patch:

Okay...

yep, Ringmod... right... - I observed it but thought it was fixed in the evening... will fix soonishly...

And... shame on me... only fixed the loop playback reset issue in the VST2.4 layer (Intel Macs), not in the VST 2.3 layer I still use for Windows...

/me slaps head on keyboard...

So okay, Arp problems are fixed and so are LFOs.

Denormals on Shapers should be fixed as well, but still something wrong with Ringmod code... sheesh

Havn't touched GUI size issue in Live/IntelMacs...

Will look into the ringmods now...

Later,

;) Urs

Okay, the RingMod bug was most embarrassing. I better not tell anyone what I did here...

The osc thing still confuses me... I'll try some more...
