This is a great time to be an electoronic musician.. Zyklus Improvisor in the works, and now a Notron in software.

Looks cool, but can't find the mp3's on the mp3 page.

(I wish Bill had "something" to report. Impatient, I know.)

It's not dead...

At last I have found a couple of companies that want to develop the Synthesiser Control Station and the Zyklus Improvisor projects. At least, they have found me. After pestering so many people, it is odd that the two companies who have shown more than just an interest were not ones whom I contacted.

A variation on the Synthesiser Control Station will be built as a hardware master keyboard controller, probably with a variation of the Improvisor built in. The Zyklus Improvisor itself will be built as a VST plug-in so it hopefully should also be available for the Mac as well as the PC.

From here on, I will only be assisting with general issues and the development of these products will mostly be handled by the companies concerned. Both produce VERY good products at the moment so both the hardware and software products will be of a very high standard and will be very reasonably priced. Development will be starting shortly.

I want to thank everyone who has given words of encouragement and made suggestions for improving the specs. My wish is that immediacy of operation and ease of use is of paramount importance and is central to the designs. Personally, I am still absolutely committed to providing something that is that little bit different, something that can allow music to take off in different directions and yet still remain fun and inspirational. Try applying these attributes to a new compressor or channel strip!

I won't be posting any more on the Improvisor subject because there is now no now longer anything that I can do about it. As regards timescales, I don't know either but I would suspect that early next year would be a good bet to see the finished products. The Improvisor in particular is just too complex a project to expect anything this year, but at least that's things underway.

So thanks again to you all.

Any chances that the hardware master keyboard controller you mentioned is going to have polyphonic aftertouch?

Thx to you, Bill, for having provided such revolving ideas through the last decades , you deserved that your intuitions would have been reckoned as useful and musician friendly, which is the main goal in this field.
I've booked a Zyklus yet, not hoping to become a Mr.Papathanassiou myself but to have fun, that's for sure!!

BTW: will you expand your site with some anecdotes on the designing and building of the Direct?

Wonder how things are developing for said Improvisor... I cling onto any tid-bit of news.

The software version was underestimated by the developers and is on hold for a while.
The hardware version is still in progress I believe but development is sloooow.

Yes, just had some thoughtful email exchanges with Bill Marshall. The poor guy is really jaded! He's had a lot of negative responses and no-goes with various names, big and small.

I can tell it's been a frustrating ride for him and really wish I could help in some bigger way..

Excitingly the hardware version you speak of is apparently getting incorporated in some form by a certain growing Chinese instrument controller company that specialises in cheap and cheerful keyboards.

I think it may be worth drumming up interest amongst the indie devs to see if anyone would like to help bring the software to fruitition, potentially under VST spec. We need more improvisational, music sketching tools!
