I have given a lot of thought to learning how you use this damned thing (I use it, but not really the way it was meant to be used. Care to post a 10-page long tips/tricks/tutorial for us?smart wrote:Once those first few Internal Controllers came out around v3.1 I've been hooked. Don't forget adding crazy LFO's via the Formula Controllers and simple ones with the Peak Controllers LFO.
I also love doing things like putting a Peak Controller on a drum track, and having it controll part of a synth like LP cutoff so that it opens up a little bit for a second everytime theres a kick or a snare.
great fun
No, I did not know that. I'm going to go try that, even though I don't understand what you mean.Lagrange wrote:You guys know that you can actually PLAY automation clips like notes?? So not only do you get the versatility of automating parameters but you dont have to try to sequence them in the playlist.. the automation clip channel actually becomes an playable instrument.. By the way the formula controller kinda turns my head around..
Select the animation clip channel and then play it with Misi notes?

Yes you can play/trigger the automation clips via your midi keyboard.. just select the automation clip channel and presto!runagate wrote:No, I did not know that. Does this mean that if you play it an octave upward, the automation clip automates at twice the speed?Lagrange wrote:Yes you can play/trigger the automation clips via your midi keyboard.. just select the automation clip channel and presto!runagate wrote:No, I did not know that. Yes I know what you mean that's why I was careful to say imo.Debutante wrote:
Once again it's a matter of taste. For me this kind of arrangment is quite perfect for what I'm doing. So it's not only a NO priority issue; I really like it the way it is. To be honest I haven't tried any others besides ACID for arrangement. That was OK too. I know there are wierd things that can happen with alien-type time signatures, but what more do you find shortcoming?
From my perspective Fruity offers no visualization of what is happening in the playlist whatsoever. Sure you can name the blocks and even colour them (pretty stuff) but you can't see what's happening. Other hosts such as Orion, Cubase or even Ableton aint like that.
Or to put it another way if you didn't know the sequence of events UPFRONT all you have is coloured lego blocks.
Which is fine for users who like to build in a predefined way, but it hinders creativity imo.
But - there is no doubt Fruity is a very powerful and a very stable host with some awesome capabilities.
It is close to a perfect host of our time.

you've never tried orion then?aquar wrote:Imo everything is wrong about the playlist but that's just my opinion. Out of all the sequencers I've tried it surely is the worst for arranging bar none.Rellik wrote:What's wrong with the Playlist?
It's not very flexible and a pattern-based approach isn't optimal for some things, but I've never found it more than a minor nuisance to work around its minor inconveniences (I even found that it has some advantages, even for orchestral sequencing!).
I like the Ableton approach myself, had some very cool accidents just sliding things around in real time which just doesn't work with Fruity.
Like I said I wouldn't look at another sequencer if Fruity finally got around to addressing the playlist limitations.
By the sound of things though most Fruity users seem to regard it as very low priority which seems a shame really.
