Anyone using the Snapshot Feature?
Can I ask where, or when you do so?

Snapshot is a great feature for live performance - especially if you use sample based instruments that may take a long time to load. However, Snapshot may limit the variety of sounds you can use in each patch.

I work mostly live; and I've found that my EWQLO Gold plug-in, which I use a lot now, takes the longest to load and it seems to make no difference if I pre-load a bunch of Multis.
It sounds like Snapshot may be the best solution for me; but what do you mean by:

It sounds like you use it ~ Could you explain?

I use Ivory extensively for performance and recording. In an ideal world, I would load up several Ivory pianos for live use (Yamaha for higher energy tunes, Steinway for quieter tunes etc.). However, if I load up both a Yamaha and Steinway Ivory patch in the same multi, I can't also load up B4II, Sonik Synth, Guitar Combos, etc. which I need on various songs because I will max out the CPU. Therefore, I pick one piano to use, one organ to use, and put in the other synth and effects patches I need into the snapshot. You can think of each patch in a snapshot bank as the same multi with different settings (e.g., mute on and off for different channels, levels for each channel). You trade off variety of sounds for speed of loading.

The trade off is that you can only get 1 sound from each patch. E.G. Let's say you want to use Albino and switch from patch to patch within Albino. FORGET IT! This does not work with Snapshots. The good neews is... I Think they are working on this problem.

I always use snapshots playing live; I like being able to switch between patches instantaneously. If I need more than one patch on the same synth, I instantiate it on two channels. I guess it all depends on how many patches you need for the music you're playing; you can also switch between snapshot banks.PhilMuller wrote:The trade off is that you can only get 1 sound from each patch. Minimonsta:melohman is one synth that get's around the patch limitation; you can switch between patches by playing notes within a defined octave. Plus you can morph between patches in various ways which can sound pretty cool.

I use a dozen different string patches, as well as a bunch of orchestral percussion and brass in a variety of different shows; I really don't think I can benefit from Sanpshot, as I'd be constantly swithing banks.
Unless, of course, I just don't fully understand how it functions.

..hey JayVee, im glad you still enjoying ur Receptor; I couldn't get mine..(hint: wife )...
Anyway, dont let small lil problems with receptor spoil your party. I dont have receptor yet, but sure i have a long list of VSTs i would like use with Receptor.

I had to get seriously 'creative' to max out my live performance options, generally, I have found that the most flexible live setup is done by creating appropriate banks of sounds in the Receptor banks and bypassing Bank parameters to route everything to the Source plugm including ccs.
Accoring to the guys at northernsounds forum, loading a secon instatiation of a NI plug is less taxing on the system than loading two different plugs, there is less of a processor hit. I have done things lioke load two channels with Colossus with one instatiation set up midi as all/thru and theother on all single channel out. The thru version gets my main piano and basses, the second one gets a warm string pad to play behind any other sound of my choosing for a layered effect. (I use a dedicated midi control to turn the voluime on/off for that patch. I also use an Axiom 61 with the drum pads set up as preset changers - instant patch change with one stroke. And I'm just beginning to create performance sets, there are LOTS more ways of making this baby talk...
