  • Transvaal Audio has updated Lost Technology to v0.2.1.

    Changes:
Bugfix to eliminate a potential memory leak in the buffer allocation routines.

Also now available is a program that can convert ".fxp" presets made for LT 0.1.2 and 0.1.3 to the format used by LT 0.2 and later versions.

Transvaal Audio has released version 0.2 of Lost Technology.

Changes:
  • Configurable buffer sizes.
Option to invert the frequency and waveform update trigger sequence.
The effects of parameter settings are now mostly independent of the sample rate.
Lots of code reorganization and streamlining.

Transvaal wrote: Lost Technology transforms sounds by taking them apart and then putting them together in a different way. The Analyzer components split the input signals into amplitude, frequency and waveform (harmonic content) sub-signals. The Modulator components combine sub-signals (and audio signals) in various ways. The Synthesizer components merge one sub-signal of each type into a new audio signal.

Main features:
Can radically transform sound in many different ways.
Stereo or mono processing.
Can merge two mono sounds into one stereo sound.
Released under the MIT License. Full source code available.

Here's Lost Tech's MANUAL

Have I been buried under rubble today!?
How did I miss this?
dubbyah, blortblort, look!

Damn, why do I have to go do real life stuff right now?
I should have a preset bank made by tonight to expand upon the ones I did before. *Edit* here's my old presets, but Transvaal just confirmed that they won't work in this new version of Lost Tech: download link is near the botton of the post. So, I'll try to have a new preset bank up soon.

I was starting to think I was the only one excited about that bit of front page news.

dude- Thanks for calling me to the table, runny :D
I'll have to mess about with this in the morning...work has beeeen KIIILLLING me... have to watch some Fellini...or maybe some of "The Office"...both are surreal...already went to Wal-Mart this evening so we're on a surrealist roll...

Post

I don't know if Transvaal is lurking around KVR, but thanks a million. This is going to be a very important update in the middle of lots of Lost Tech use getting ready for playing live.

Post

gnar gnar kill.

Post

Note to runagate and everyone else: Keep in mind that presets for earlier versions of LT will load COMPLETELY WRONG in v0.2. You might want to stick with v0.1.3 until you're done with your current project(s).

how does it sound?

MP3 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!

f**k!

Thanks Johan :D

I finally get to try this new version out today!
I edited my post above to refect that the old presets won't work, so I'll just try to make a new bank. I think I actually know how to make a bank that's named correctly and everything due to working on Ugo's Impact beta preset team. That man knows what he's doing!

This couldn't have ome at a better time. Thanks again, so, so much for Lost Tech!

And a note to anyone who wants to use this plug-in:
  • I can't explain what it does other than transform audio into an astonishing variety of new, crazy sounds. I'll post a link to the old thread where we discuss this later. The main idea behind designing sounds in Lost Tech is it's acts like resynthesis.

    There's various threshold controls

    There's various buffering controls

There's various modulation parameters, each of which have several different fsu algrorithms to choose amongst which I cannot explain. One secret is that some of the algorithms work well when there's more than one of the same type selected. others work well when used with disimilar algorithms. Why? I've no idea.

The fact that there's these different sensitivity threshold settings and the fact that it reacts differently to different frequencies and types of material means that's it's really hard to make presets.
That's why this time around I'm going to try to make presets based on the type of audio to be affected, in groupings according to source material. Sort of like how synths have their BASes and LEADs and PADs presets, plus I'll try to post audio demos. Can you tell I love this plug-in? :help: :hyper: :tu:

OK- now I've about had it. i was REALLY looking fwd to posting a mp3 example of this thing in action using Live6beta (which is the only version of Live that will work for me right now unless I want to completely uninstall Wusikstation V3....long tedious story...)
Anyway...Live 6 is crashing like to train when I got to record using live input and clips. I am quite pissed. I've sent them 4 crash reports in the last 24hrs. Probably NOT an indicator of the true status of the app, but L6 has be a crash fest for me.
I'm going to try to rig some sounds up thru eXT...just some realtime input thru chains of Lost Tech .2 and a bit of verb stay tuned... sorry for the "tone" but I've about had it with L6 and others today... but I LOVE the .2 version of this plug, Johan. It's quite amazing an you never really know what to expect...but it's always like an aural prize...the best accidents happen with Lost Tech. serious.

Indeed.
I'm going to miss my Atlantean presets a lot but I'll just keep the old version alongside the new for that.

Hope it all works out for you, blortblort. I hate that shit; happens to me every coupla months.

I have made a bare minimum conversion tool that turns LT 0.1.3 presets into 0.2 presets. To use it, unzip the archive and put the executable in the directory where your presets are. Then open a terminal window (aka DOS/command prompt), go to the preset directory and use commands of the form

Code: Select all

presetfixer <old preset filename> <new preset filename>
to convert presets. Giving the same name for both the old and the new file works but results in the old file being overwritten. If the program prints two blocks of hex data (before and after) but no lines that begin with "Error:" then it has probably worked.

I GUARANTEE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT THIS PROGRAM. IT MIGHT DO NAUGHTY THINGS. DON'T TRY TO USE IT IN ANY OTHER WAY THAN THE ONE DESCRIBED ABOVE UNLESS YOU KNOW ABOUT COMPUTERS.

Post

Hmm, I'm not feeling daring or competant tonight.
I'll save that for another time.
You really can code, can't you? :D

I have to go back and play some more...
