Why can't or wouldn't Rewire Slaves be able to host VST's?!?

Audio Plugin Hosts and other audio software applications discussion

Why do you think it hasn't been done?

Because it can't be (for technical reasons).

Because it makes the software less exclusive (and allows you to use more competitors software).

Wow that really blows. I wonder what the point of Rewiring Ableton is..

Does anyone know how to convert a Live project to Cubase?
The sequencer in Live is horrible.
Its such a great sketchpad tho!

I think the sequencer is absolutely fine, its the sound quality I can't deal with!

For me the non-ability to use 3rd party plugins in Live in Rewire slave mode is also a major drawback.

I was told once by an Ableton employee that it can't be done for technical reasons and the Rewire specification respectively. But then I know that others (like Project5; and FruityLoop too, if I'm not mistaken) can do it.
My assumtion is it might have to do with latency compensation in Rewire slave mode. Does Project5 have latency compensation?

It does indeed.
