I am seriously considering purchasing 1 or 2 Receptors, but I have to admit, when I see the rear panel with ADAT support (!) I am a little concerned about this company. ADAT is so ten years ago! This makes me think what else is archaic about the receptor?

Oh yeah, and those Audio outputs ~ they're so, like, 40 years ago ~ hmmm

Huh?

The ADAT litepipe protocol is still heavily supported by many manufacturers. It's probably the most convenient and ubiquitous method for interfacing multichannel digital audio between DAW interfaces (check out the MOTU and RME lines) and other gear (Keyboards, Modules, EFX processors...and of course the Receptor).

This has nothing to do that thankfully departed format, the glorifed VCR known as an ADAT MDM (modular digital multitrack).

Are you trying to talk me out of buying a receptor? ;) I'm interested, but any manufacturer who supports such a "project studio" protocol such as ADAT makes me wonder about the viability (RE: obsolescence factor). There was actual engineering, probably a meeting or 10 involved with slapping a hardwired, non-removable ADAT port. Makes me roll my eyes in wonder. LOL !

"…the most convenient and ubiquitous method for interfacing multichannel digital audio between DAW interfaces…" is actually a PCI bus (FYI: look on the back of your Pro Tools rig - you DO have a pro tools rig, right?) Right next to the … um …Audio Outputs ! LOL LOL

Sounds like it's a dealbreaker, mate.

Are youz crazy??.. You get the lightpipe interface and can direct digital to a supported console. Crystal clear sweet sounding digital like it was running from within your DAW.. I think the only other way to get external effects to sound this good is to network them from another computer or to buy those big ass expensive rigs..
By the way you dont have to use an ADAT.. ADAT Lightpipe gives you what 8 or 16 direct ins and outs NO CABLE TANGLES just 2 fibre optic cables and presto.. Plus Receptor is one of those no brainer hardware purchases that basically sells itself.. YOU CANT DEALBREAK RECEPTOR just misunderstand it..

Sorry, Lagrange - I was being sarcastic. I reckon the lightpipe is a FEATURE.

Sorry I get defensive when ppl try to diss lightpipe.. The way I see it is if you diss it you have never tryed it or just dont have the need for direct digital interfacing or have camel humps for ears..

Er, so you understand that I WASN'T dissing it...?

Do you know What ADAT is? - if not click this link

What would you like to see as an alternative or in addition?

Receptor has ADAT out (not in)

I have a mckie HD24, Digital Performer and several multiport interfaces (Layla24,) The rig goes to a Mackie d8b which is mainly a synth imput selector, as I do all the mixing and mastering in the box. There are more lightpipe ports than inputs, so I run a Frontier Apache with wonderful results. (I even have an actual ADAT connected, in case some client brings in old material to transfer, or if I decide to go mobile at some point.)

Clock, sync, MMC, ehatever, it all works without a hitch.

I have two other computers that have to connect by multiple audio cables and believe me, the best-qualty signal comes from the lightpipe link. Diss it if you will (and if you record at 96K regularly then it IS a dealbreaker) but I record audio at 44.1 and find ADAT almost as useful as MIDI. One of the reasons I got Receptor was the ADAT port.

If having this useful and simle interface on the box turns you off, then don't buy it. Look for Plugzilla, if they're still in business, and pay more...
