which Mastering Plug-ins would you recomment?

There's no insinuation about it: it is not possible to get 'professional' results without using a mastering engineer. Full stop. And not just any mastering engineer, but a real professional mastering engineer. There's no professional recording engineer in my acquaintance who would disagree with that. Try and find a real record where there's no mastering engineer credited.

I think the point is that most of us are hobbyists, so until I'm a popstar I'll do the mastering myself.. ..don't hold yer breaths!

my recommendation is Nomad Factory Essential Suite...
The Multiband Compressor is very nice...has tight sound and does not pump. Good for any material.

Personally I find the Sony OXford stuff hard to beat. Its expensive but worth the price.

i tell you this can make the whole mastering process a heck of a lot easier..
using this ,you really dont need to do a whole lot of mastering afterwards.
it will make your mixes sound as good as they can i think, once you learn to use it , and it is'nt complicated. damn its good!

what you think is 'mis-mastered', might sound good to me.. If something makes my crap sound better, why not use it? I'm not in the need of a mastering engineer, I just want to beef up the tracks myself..

Agree; I doubt most people are going to use plugins as replacements to traditional mastering (at least not until the technology improves), but rather as a way of giving them a "ballpark figure" to aim for.

It can also be used as a cheapass substitute for the real thing, for tracks which would have otherwise gone un-mastered!

It won't sound as good, of course, but for those of us without much disposable income, it can be just the thing we needed. Or at least until we can save up a month of paychecks, which is another great reason for making a backup for your songs before mastering; So you can eventually take the original track to a pro!
