You could also give Wavearts Trackplug a spin. It has a good eq and a gate along with dual compressors that can be sidechained through the eq meaning they can do de-popping and de-essing.

My aucostic recording will not involve anything except piano, voice, acoustic guitar and flute. Thanks also for the point on vint modulator, I hadn't even noticed that one.

Solo flute, warmish room, XY condensor pair. Often recorded outdoors. Doesn't need much but maybe a low-cut.justjazz wrote:I find that piano sounds excellent going through HarmoniEQ. I'm a big fan of both Voxengo and Kjaerhus products. I have used the Kjaerhus GAC-1 extensively for a year, or so, and am astonished at its flexibility and potential. A quick tour of the presets should hint at what's possible. I recommend "fat vocal" which uses parallel compression and some of the mid-side examples as start-off points. But that really is just scratching the surface. Spending some quiet - or loud - hours with the demo is essential and will reap great rewards!

With my Behringer C-1 large diaphragm condenser mic and Behringer Mic100 Tube Ultragain Preamp into my old 16 bits SoundBlaster Live Platinum the Kjaerhus sounds very very good, clean, and with good body.
With the same setup, the Voxengo sounds a little harsh in the mids and way more distorted. I tried it with a Shure dynamic mic too, and it matched better.
Anyway, I'll stick with Kjaerhus. The Waves SSL 4000 can also be good, I'll give it a try.

I have the Voxformer. 
I do not use it very much now, but I did a year back.
It was possible to get a descent sound on the lead with some major
tweaking, but it was impossible to use it with more than one instance at a time in my old DAW. So I added the effect to the audio files as a offline rendering in Cubase SX. Making it possible to edit the sound if needed.
