Snapshots

Hi,
I have just gone about creating my first snapshot bank. Our band plays 2 sets so I was going to have two banks where I can load the second one up on the break.
When creating snapshots, if your filling up the channels of the required plugs you are using, do you need to just look at the memory and not bother about the CPU as you will (I) never have them all substantiated to get the CPU maxed out like this.?
I notice that when I load M-Tron-B4-Minimonst-Scarbee 73 w'DFD-Brass Sample library-GPO and all are substantiated there is a lot of crackling, (CPU about 85%) but obviously this dissapears as you realistically only substantiate the ones for that song or whatever. Is this normal?
Are there any tips or advice anyone can give me when creating a snapshot bank to minimize problems? I do notice B4 and Mtron together making a bit of crackling when all the other sample based plugs are bypassed.
One last thing! (honest) I can't remember the guy on here who runs his RSP73 in 16bit format for live use. I may do this now so I don'y have to mess with DFD at all.
Should I use somnething like Chicken System Translator to convert the 24bit samples to 16 bit. I have never done this before so I don't know how easy it is.
Thanks
Gary

Gary,
I believe the issue is not CPU but through put for samples. When you bypass a Receptor channel you will reduce CPU usage but RAM is not released. On Receptor my favorite generic DFD setting is pre load 428 and buffer 532.

Thanks Rick, I'v done that now and so far no clicks or pops on Scarbee RSP73 (with full 12 layer 24bit mode), which is the only instrument I use with Kompakt.
I have been using the 'large instrument' (there's a joke there somewhere) setting on DFD, and it has my memory at 78%. With your setting it takes it down to 70%, but I can afford to lose another 8% if it gets it sorted!
So maybe I won't have to convert my samples to 16bit. Mainly because I can't find a programme that can do it!

That would be me.c3boy wrote:Hi,

I used barbabatch to do it, but it can be done with tother software as well. So I can run the Scarbee Wurly and Rhodes Libraries with no DFD involved - which means I can go totally nuts, pumping the sustain pedal, forearm smashes to the keyboard, etc. and never get a pop or crackle.

Cheers Phil, tell me though. Just what tone loss is there covnverting to 16 bit. I am not familiar with sample editing. There is a bit of popping on that setting, but it was worth a try. I think I'd like to convert to 16bit but retain full 12 layer velocity and full program (not the lite program) Have you tried it that way at all? I will never need Scarbee Wurli and Rhodes instantiated at the same time using snapshots, so maybe I can have that much detail.

You don't lose enough detail for it to mattter in a live setting. I haven't A/B'd them, but that is my impression.c3boy wrote:Cheers Phil, tell me though. I use the 12V lite version (Rhodes) and the 16V lite version (Wurly)
No samples are stretched more than 1/2 step (all white keys are sampled) and they sound and play great. I forget if the non-lite versions will load with no DFD - but it doesn't seem to make a difference, certainly not as big of a difference as using less Velocity layers.

Cheers!!!!!!!c3boy wrote:Hi Phil,
Just converted and loaded up 12v lite, and your spot on, it still sounds great, and i still have 48% memory left. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
