Don't worry, he'll turn on me when he sees how much CPU Poly uses.TotcProductions wrote:Kingston wrote:TotcProductions wrote:A good remark from Kingston!

(am I really that bad? I guess I might be. My forum personality representation strikes me odd as well occasionally. I *try* to be merely critical. I fail and tell people to f**k off instead.)I was just joking. Critical is what I would call it as well.
But anyway, be prepared for a phat pig (but she's got so much personality!) And also be aware that some features are going to be coming soon (probably releasing beta before I add the MIDI CC editor... the effect version... a few other things.) So again, if you NEED any of that, then just hang on and don't spoil your evaluation periods too early.
Thanks for the kind words folks. I'm working 17 hour days here... trying to beat the Space Shuttle to launch.
As far as NFRs in exchange for presets, you ALL get her FREE for a WEEK. Fully functioning. Just like SCAMP. In that week you have time to learn it (if you already know analog synthesis then there's nothing to learn!) and make presets, or even more importantly... DEMO SONGS! Then send them to me. If I hear anything I like and want to use in the product or as a demo on the site, then you've earned a free key. But no guarantees, and I'm going to want REALLY good stuff. Anyway, I'll make a formal announcement about that with the "rules" later. There's also a guitar synth contest currently underway that nobody's responded to yet... http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2061155 C'mon, somebody must play guitar synth!

If we make presets early, are they going to become worthless by changes in the synth? Or will you be making an effort to keep early presets working?

That's a REALLY good question! And the best answer I can give is, I don't know, I don't WANT that to happen, but until version 1.0, anything could change. (That's why demo songs will be a lot more valuable to me early on.)mistertoast wrote:If we make presets early, are they going to become worthless by changes in the synth? I'm trying as hard as I can to get everything nailed for Beta... but things like ranges and curves on knobs are SO important to the feel of a synth, that they may change. So that's part of what takes so long, it's not just add a knob... it's add a knob and play with it in context long enough to get a feel for if it's behaving in way people will like, or if there's lots of wasted range or only a narrow sweet spot. So every time I add a knob (and there's 179 of them currently with several more going in today!
Adding new features won't be such a big deal, those should go in without hurting anything that's gone before (in fact, I'm testing that today as I add the new features to the voice.)
So yes, NO GUARANTEES of stability before version 1.0, that's what Beta means (so all the more reason for you to wait to evaluate it) but, I'm going to try my best to not have this happen. Or if it does, document it well enough so that it should be clear where to tweak your presets to get them back to how they were.
And Duncan, after the smoke clears from Poly, in a month or two, I have plans to do a couple more free products based on the same technology, but limited in SOME way (which for now I'm keeping secret.)
Note that Poly does have a Polyphony knob, so it already IS "MonoTony" (Heh! Great name! Poly's annoying little brother!
OK, I gotta get some work done... talk amongst yourselves.
Cheers!

Oh! One thing I forgot to mention, there's no reason you can't continue to use a Beta copy forever. So archive all the versions you use, and if a change DOES happen in a new version, just use the previous version to get your old sounds. You can rename the .dlls to help you tell them apart too, (most) hosts don't mind if more than one plugin has the same ID, as long as they have different filenames (I must have about 15 different versions of Poly-Ana in my vstplugins folder at this point.

Yes, of course. I just mean if a change happens in a new version, and you don't like it, or it breaks a favorite preset you made, the old version will still work (assuming you own a license of the product or your evaluation period is still active.)mistertoast wrote:>>Oh! (And again, if you're not pretty sure you'd like to buy it, I'd REALLY recommend you hold off on evaluating it until it's to version 1.0.)
