If you want to preview other instruments, and actually be able to compare them to what you have rather than just arbitrarily chuck them out without having the slightest idea whether your new choice will be a good one or not, then you can click on the button with a cog symbol on it and choose "Receive MIDI from...", then select the generator you are looking to replace. Once you are happy, a simple CTRL+SHIFT+C will copy all of the patterns from the old one and CTRL+V will paste them into your new one. It shoudln't take you more than 20 seconds or so to recreate the Playlist channel, three seconds to copy/paste Mixer settings and then you can delete the old one. Why anyone would want to replace an instrument before they were satisfied that they definitely had something better to replace it with is completely beyond me.basic channel wrote:First complaint - should be able to right click on generator track in song playlist and "replace" with another generator (like in FLS and XT) rather than just delete and replace from main menu bar.
Anyway, like you I never finished anything at all in the 18 months I used Fruity, yet in the first three or four months I was using ORION I ported a dozen songs from our hardware, wrote [finished] several new ones and finished a couple of things I'd started in Fruity but had never been able to satisfactorily finish. That kind of said it all to me.
As to the question of what is in ORION Platinum that might justify the expense, the simple answer is quality. Many of the included generators would cost hundreds of dollars each to replace with VSTi, if they could be adequately replaced at all, as would the best of the effects [Platinum Diffuse Delay, Impulse Response Processor or Dynamics Shaper (similar to TransX tranisent shaper)].
