It SAYS it's fully modelled
Well, let's just say that the word 'modelled' is very popular when it comes to marketing, as it is conveniently vague.
How about checking the parameters out before you open your stupid mouth...

Also, didn't the Roland RD1000 use some form of modeling back, oh say, 20 years ago or so. It was based on something that they called SAS (Structured Adaptive Synthesis). I think maybe that this was some form of additive synthesis, but I'm not really sure.

Anyway, I can't imagine that it would be that CPU intensive to implement some similar technology on a modern computer.

Different.

7MB seems quite a big file though for soemthing just based on PM - wonder if they use some IR's in there somewhere? (would still be PM - for example Harm Visser uses IR's in some of his Tassman ensembles as exciters)

Or maybe the gui just uses lots of bitmaps?

Post

More than likely the file size is a result of the bitmaps used for graphics.

Be interesting to hear how it sounds, although I, too, have to exclude myself from their target market at that price point.

Post

7MB may seem big for a PM synth, but it's obviously way too small to be anything sample-based. It's priced as a premium plug. Let's just hope it isn't a disaster like Arturia Brass, which likewise positioned itself to be a premium physical modeling plug for trumpet, trombone, and sax, but which only manages to do the unmuted trumpet with some degree of accuracy. I tend to agree that any model that would sound like a real piano would require more compute power than a current PC can provide in real time, but the authors may have discovered some clever tricks. I would not be shocked if it actually sounded pretty good when played without the damper pedal, but the intermodulation of a real piano with the mutes off the strings is fabulously rich and not something I'd expect to see handled in real time by a mere 2-4 core processor system.

Just out of interest - is it because no one has properly done it before or do you actually know something about this?

I did. Which parameters do you think in particular imply that this must all be pure maths and no samples?

Samples are up big time on the website and to me it sounds incredibly realistic.

Time to throw all sample libraries in the bin, I think... listen to the "re-striking of the same note" example, for instance... not to mention the pedal catches!

It will be interesting to see what the minimum CPU draw for a high quality performance is. Perhaps not nice, but interesting. :P

Also, the product sadly seems to sport the type of on-line activation system I just can't stand... just 3 activations before you have to get new codes manually. The way I mess around with hardware, it will hardly hold me for 6 months... even without installing it on the laptop as well.

Holy shit. Sounds great. Wonder how it feels to play.

There's a Demo up, too!

unfucking believable!

Almost, a little "organ like" of the fast runs especially with the sustain pedal but it's definitely the best PM piano I have heard.
In any case I would not buy this until I compare it with the other PM piano coming up.

45 day demo  Cool

Is anybody getting the demo to work? I tried it with both Samplitude 8.31 and vstHost, and neither one will even initialize the trial version.
