I downloaded and installed the demo, but found that some black keys are not producing any sound (though I can see a response to them in the velocity window in the plugin itself). The keys that aren't working are F#2, G#2, Bb2, C#6, Eb6, F#6, G#6, Bb6.
Aside from that, I really liked this thing. Though it certainly can be improved in some areas (the higher note range, for example), it's still amazing.

I like it (bravo!), but I find the low dynamics to be under-represented. Is there any way to make the timbre change more when playing ppp and lower?

I'm impressed so far...though it should be a bit cheaper -they'd sell more in the long run...particularly an initial sell to get more folks to try it out. Regarding comparing it to samples: since samples are captured using recording techniques -mics, preamps, eq, compression, etc., maybe this modeled piano would be appreciated more though a modeled mic plugin, tube preamp, or some "effect" that might add some edgyness in the right places.. It may be just a bit too "pure" as a computer model, but that is what we want, initially, as it leaves it more open to individualization. ...Am I wrong ?

I've been trying to get the trial to work in Samplitude 8.31 and vstHost, but even the updated trial version is still not initializing in either program.
Niclas has been very diligent in emailing me and offering excellent support.
I posted over at Samplitude.com to see if anyone there has any luck getting it work for them.

AGREE. Pure can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.Cellomangler wrote:I'm impressed so far...though it should be a bit cheaper -they'd sell more in the long run...particularly an initial sell to get more folks to try it out. But when it comes to acoustic piano, generally speaking pure is good. (But a touch of high-end 'verb and/or very subtle Hi-Pass won't hurt, and will benefit the mix.)
Unless, of course you're going for an "in-your-face," signal-processed "pop" grand piano! (Which could be achieved using additional VSTs in your piano track's signal chain.)
Personally, I love "natural" acoustic sounds, and they are too few and far between nowadays. Most modern albums use heaping helpings of audio f*ckery which really becomes annoying if not done correctly.
Well, then again, it depends on so many other variables as well; In the end, once the signal is processed destructively, there's no going back. So in order to attain highest possible quality and maximum flexibilty, "pure" should be seen as a definite positive with this or any Grand Piano plugin.

It makes no sound here. I tried in Cubase5.1 and Chainer. I see that there is midi in in Cubase monitor, but the piano is not responding. I can see the velocities in one of the windows, but there is no jump in the CPU meter in cubase, so the plugin's engine is not recieving midi data.
I use win98SE , maybe that is the reason?
I think this is very interesting. I downloaded the demo because the demo tracks has so much reverb that it is impossible tell how it really sounds. But so far I am impressed.

In addition to using a modeled or real tube preamp or mic emulator to add some "reality" to the pure modeled piano I'd like to see a couple of more editable parameters in the software:
String rust, fur ball dampening, pedal and bench squeek, and brick-n-brack rattling. ..Or maybe I'm just too used to my aging Chickering..!
Anecdotal aside: I called up my piano tech about a strange buzziness behind some hammers -turned out his business card had fallen into the guts from where he left it on top of the soundboard..!

One time I dropped an earplug in between the hammers and the strings of an upright before a live performance. (I always wear earplugs on stage so I can't hear my own terrible playing.)Cellomangler wrote:In addition to using a modeled or real tube preamp or mic emulator to add some "reality" to the pure modeled piano I'd like to see a couple of more editable parameters in the software:

I noticed it just in time, and was able to remove it.

In all seriousness, however, I do think that things such as "incidental noises," "prepared strings," "amp/cabinet/mike simulation," etc. should be on the list of priorities, but NOT before overall simulation accuracy!
And, of course, these aforementioned additional effects should be controllable (with the option to disable them if one wishes) via MIDI and a dedicated section or tabbed page of the GUI.
(It would allow pristine Grand, Upright, "Pop" piano, or all-out audio f*ckery; whatever one wished to use on a given track, depending on the style intended.)
What say you, fellow KVRians?

Definately agree....however I do really like abusing this Piano, and I hope what you mention comes, especially "prepared strings" as well as other additional tricks and treats for extreme creative use and abuse.djdorian wrote:In all seriousness, however, I do think that things such as "incidental noises," "prepared strings," "amp/cabinet/mike simulation," etc. should be on the list of priorities, but NOT before overall simulation accuracy!

I hope these features will be future considerations by Modartt. It's very nature allows you to get as close right now to allowing almost circuit bent like behaviour for want of a better description except it's respective to an acoustic instrument. If x and x feature was implemented for more wacky stuff I personally couldn't resist.Missing/broken strings randomly breaking, simulating worn out/out of tune strings from new over unrealistic periods of time like in 30 minutes of play, different windings, rediculous shapes and materials, excessive dissonances and so on.
After spending sometime playing and experimenting with the Pianoteqs features I went ahead and bought it.This versatile killer Piano is almost irresistable. The stuff that you can get out of it is quite wonderful.
A feature request for CC and host automation would be nice at some point.
Edit:Midi CC is already supported for all the sliders and pedals...right click on them and small arrow at the bottom right end of the info tab that opens is used to access. It supports midi learn.I thought it was just an info tab and didn't know it was there until the dev told me.
Thanks.

When it comes to pianos Bluedad is the go to expert in my opinion. Have you tried the demo and what are your thoughts?bluedad wrote:Cellomangler wrote:In addition to using a modeled or real tube preamp or mic emulator to add some "reality" to the pure modeled piano I'd like to see a couple of more editable parameters in the software:
