routing CCs to fx busses

Hi guys,

I've got a plugin effect instantiated in slot A of fx bus 1, and I'm trying to send CC 84 & 85 to turn it on and off (I've got the plugin set to receive those CCs), but I can't get it to work. The frustrating thing is, if I insert the plugin into an instrument channel, it works perfectly - what's the deal with the effects busses?

If anyone can help me to work it out, I'd much appreciate it!

If you have Route ccs to Source turned on, as I do, the FX don't receive controls unless the instrument is Line, S/PDIF or Instrument in. If there is an instrument in the channel, it strips out the midi messages.

If you are in mixer slot 12, oyour midi program changes only wprk on channel 12. CCs are supposed to work, but I have a plug in channel 16 that won't receive cc31, so I'm n ot clear what the true story is.

If you are connected otherwise, I don't have an answer at all.

Not very %#$@& helpful this time, am I... Sorry :)

Ok, I'll try turing off the route CCs to source, as I use a mouse for most things, anyway.

Cheers, mate!

Since Dasher is referring to my plugin (currently being worked on), I have some observations to add here.
If one of the 16 instrument channels is set to Line/Guitar/SPDIF, then MIDI is sent to the first effect plugin in that channel (usually FXA). The MIDI info consists of all channels, i.e. the entire MIDI stream coming in from the rear input (with the possible exception of program changes, as noted above). Thus, effects plugins must have a built-in way of filtering channels to avoid seeing the entire stream.
Regarding Receptor's 2 Effects buses and the Master bus, I don't yet know if or how MIDI is routed to plugins instantiated there. To be determined.

I've got it working, thanks Dasher! Your tip worked a treat!

Gtreat! (Especially as it wasn't so much of a tip as a hopeful suggestion...) :D

And it seems that plugins in Effects Bus 1 or 2 or in the Master channel do NOT recieve MIDI CCs. But they can be controlled by Receptor's Parameter Assign or the NRPN method, if "Route MIDI CCs to Source Plugin" is off.

Yep, that seems to be the case.
