AH! here it is:

Please, if you play guitar synth, HELP! If you send me the best demo material, I'll give you free copies of my two products, SCAMP and Poly-Ana. See link above for contest details. :|

BTW, I want a Godin XTSa REALLY bad. I actually had one on order in 2004, then at the last minute got a 50th Anniversary American Series Strat instead. :D I feel I lucked out, as they still make the XTSa, but I dunno if they'll ever again make a Strat so nice for that price (which was several hundred $ more than the Godin anyway!). ;)

Godins rock BTW. 3 guitars in one! Maybe 4. 2 Humbuckers, a single, piezo on the bridge for "acoustic" sound, AND synth-access. All for under $1000. And they feel great to play and look great too. Gotta have one! I'm just broke... :(

spent some words on the subject, time ago. fortunately an unknwown folk inherited those problems buying my gr33.

I'm back to the old privilege where picking a note non-perfectly gives a "twang" and not a "tw-blblblbl-ang-blblblbliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii".

Yeahh I understand you, play a midi guitar is HARD.
I have had bad experiences also, but I love that sensation when I can play "other" sounds with my guitar, its really amazing. So I keep trying. With the Axon its not easy, but when it works its wonderful. Many things influence it, pickup setting, guitar setting, strings, your playing... but if all is setup properly it can work very good.

I dont want to convince you, but you can hear what many good guitarist can do with guitar synth, some amazing thigs without doubt, so if they can do that we can do it also.

Im considering also that guitar, actually I use Roland GK pickups with my guitars, but I want a better midi guitar, have you played it? its a really great guitar?

I played it but only through an amp. Yes, it sounds good (could probably benefit from better pickups than the stock Godin ones, but you can always swap them out any time. 2 Standard PAF humbucker shaped ones, and a Strat shaped single in the middle.) Feels great. Well made. (In Canada!!! :D ) The "acoustic" sound from the bridge is good too.

And they SAY it tracks guitar synth better with it's 6 piezo pickups in the bridge than other guitars that use the add-on Roland magnetic pickups, but again I didn't get to try it as a synth controller (they didn't have a guitar synth setup in the music store... biggest music store in the country and I can't demo guitar synth there! :( ) so I can't say. But it makes sense that this would be a better system.

The best thing about the Godin xtSA is it's price. That's a LOT of guitar for under $1000 (CDN, USD should be even a bit cheaper)

I've read that the Axon stuff actually works better with the magnetic type hex pickups. That may have changed with more recent updates to Axon stuff, though.

Can that Godin guitar do Strat type sounds (does it do coil tap on the humbuckers)?

Says it does split coil in the 2 and 4 position of the 5 position pickup switch.

And they definitely use the bridge piezos as the guitar pickups. Read up on their page. http://www.godinguitars.com/godinxtsap.htm

Yeah, that sure does seem like a real workhorse of a guitar.
There is a Godin dealer nearby, maybe I'll mosey in for a test drive.
Maybe I'll even buy, should I ever have money again :hihi:

I'm getting one for sure, next time I have $1000 burning a hole in my pocket... but that might not be for SOME time, considering the hole I've dug myself INTO over the last year. :(

And of course, then I'll need a GI-20 too. More $$$.

I have a gr20. The onboard sounds track great, but playing a vsti is a bit more tricky. You get lots of glitches and false triggers unless your playing is real clean. It also generates tons of cc info. My entry in last month's music cafe contest has a sax solo plyed with a stock gr20 patch. Here's the link if you're interested.

Thats very interesting... why would onboard sounds do better than something under MIDI control? Are you using MIDI in MONO mode on multiple channels? Or regular (and insufficient for guitar) POLY mode on a single channel?

Most synths that are multitimbral should be able to do this actually, even if they don't support MIDI MONO mode explicitly, you could just set up 6 monophonic sounds on 6 successive MIDI channels and that should do it. No? Or even just set up 6 instances of your favorite VSTi playing the same monophonic patch, route your GR controller to all of them, and put each one on a successive MIDI channel.

Nice song by the way! Enter my guitar synth contest http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=147535 , PLEASE!!! :)

Its not a question of mono mode or some synth configuration (although that would improve the tracking with external sounds of course), the question is that the internal sounds are triggered at a pre-midi stage so the response is much more accurate. The external midi out is know to be worse than the internal ones. So yes its need to tweak your synths with mono mode (or emulate it, etc) and other tweaks like match the pitchbend, etc. but the external midi is not as good as the internal sounds playing I know it first hand, I have a GR30.

Consider the Axon unit, it has maany more possibilities (string split, playing area split, fretboard split, etc.) than the Roland GI and if you play with pick its more fast, the 6ª and 5ª strings delay is near 0 and that would not happen with the GI.

If you play exclusively with fingers, then it would be much similar one unit than other.

Not, its not true, the Axon AX100 MARK2 works even better with piezo pickups. It has a special "piezo" setting for it.

Oh by the way, I just downloaded the Godin xtSA manual and according to it, there's no coil tap on the humbuckers. :( Too bad.

So not sure what they meant when they said "glassy split-coil sounds in the second and forth position" on their web page.

Really, in positions 2 and 4, they SHOULD just tap one coil of the humbuckers because the middle pickup then becomes the other coil.
