That sounds a lot like GForce Oddity to me.

To me it sounds like a Moog clone, I could try my fabolous Minimax with detuned Oscillators and slight pitch bend, maybe with some glide...

nice sound by the way....

Ok, I've made 10 presets for FF Twin that use none of the oscillators, just pure filter self-oscillation all the way. You can download the presets here

That lead sound that was used in the short demo posted earlier is already in the preset library of FF Twin, it's called "Only With FabFilter! BM" and you can find it in Lead/Soft menu.

I've been auditioning a bunch of filters lately and I've noticed the best ones sound very different from the ordinary ones particularly at high resolution and drive. On a typical digital filter boosting the resonance *and* the filter gain/drive just kills the resonance and makes the sound very bassy. On a filter like the Vaz S or FFTwin filter though, these settings bring out new harmonics that sound almost like a subtle chorus and accentuate the sound in a very musical way. At more typical settings filters can be hard to tell apart but at high resonance and gain the good ones are very easy to pick out.

The somewhat frustrating thing is that, aside from Vaz, the best filters tend to be in otherwise fairly limited synths. FFTwin, the GForce stuff etc, are all pretty basic.

Huh? FF Twin has a pretty complex routing matrix but maybe you mean the rather slim choise of only 2 auxiliary envelopes and 3 LFO's? IMHO Twin strikes a nice balance between "too complex" and "too simple".

Anyways, I'd love a super-flexible synth from em too.. with spline envelopes, fully modular etc. A little birdie told me, it's coming.. it's coming.. maybe. 8)

Well, I don't know about "the best" but my favorite filter is "the beast":

no you can't download it :P but you can hear it on my myspace if you're interested: Dominatrix (1st song) this is MicroTonic playing a single beat while I mash it up with the beast, with some editing afterwards. Nothing else added at all..

FFTwin is capable of a lot broader range of sounds than you'd think after a quick glance, but I'd really love to see fm & ringmod, an allpass and comb filter, and maybe some digital oscillator waveforms or maybe even wavetables.

I also really like the Surge approach of providing "modulators" instead of hard-wired lfos and envelopes. Each modulator can be either an envelope or an lfo and you can shape the lfo with an envelope if you use the modulator as an envelope. They can also each act as a simple step sequencer. I'd love to see this kind of modulation flexibility with the raw sound quality of FFTwin. Vaz pretty much gives you that but it's PC only and a lot slower to work with.

Come, with your skills you'll do this in FL with a couple of sampler channels and Volcano or MS-20 - I've heard you do it before :P (that MS-20 Mr. Oizo -style thing just kicks ass, man!)

Nice sounding thing nevertheless, IIRs. Been humming to this for 15 minutes now :D
Now available with added Inherently Suspect Justification!

IIRs...that's awesome. makes me want to play with wires and I've been banned from doing so in 7 states (including my own  )

bmanic- I'm constantly amazed at the twin. really cool synth that doesn't get too much attention  me loves it :hihi:
Thanks for the patches, I'm sure they'll get warped but these are gonna be GREAT "jump points" for me...

all this filtery stuff reminds me of my Pro-One days ...I'm sure I really tried the patience of my dorm mates :P :P :P

I looooooooooove the Waldorf D-Pole filter for chewing up drum beats. This filter is so nasty and, when mixed with the overdrive, delay ring modulation sample reduction etc. it can do unbelievable stuff with your music. Infact, I would call it more of a distortion/delay/filter plugin. The only problem I have with it is that I often end up getting carried away with it and lose myself in distortion heaven for an hour or so before I remember what I actually loaded it for in the first place! This is one nasty filter plugin thats about as suttle as not very suttle thing being extremely unsuttle.

For thick, smooth and creamy filtering I love the Creamware Interpole. This is the total opposite to the D-Pole and sounds so lush and expensive.

I find the Powercore Filtroid is very digital sounding way (in a good way)and because of this, and it's features, is ideally suited for use with tarnce. :P

I really like the Audio Damage 914 (fixed) filter plugin aswell - something very different that really needs to be demoed to understand how it works and sounds. Plus I really like their Filterpod aswell as this thing has a resolution that can really "whistle" and is quick and easy to use.

Plus, special mention for the Tone2 BiFilter which I think is a fantastic sounding filter plugin that is FREE!! For me this could easily sell for £20 and still be a good buy as it has a fantastic sound quality - 45 different types of filters which sound smooth and warm or rough and nasty. Plus a decent distorion unit aswell!! Free!! :nutter:
