Give me utility and efficiency over form any time...
It took me quite some time looking the screenshot to locate the controls for 2nd comp and EQ!
I prefer the ergonomics / ease of functionality of the original GAC1. Having said that, although I own other plugs in the Kjaerhus Golden range I never bought GAC-1, nor was even seriously tempted
... and I've not actually decided whether or not to upgrade to S6 from S5. With the Live 6 upgrade also imminent, and with the features of the two quickly converging, I may not get both. And overall Live seems to me the way to go out of the two...

By the way, I notice that Perfect Space is upgraded to v1.3 in the screenshot on the Cakewalk site. And the new version finally credits Voxengo as its creator... "powered by Voxengo".

I totally agree! VC64 looks great but can't beat GAC-1's functional and clear interface. That's a good example of functional gui VS fancy gui.kilroy wrote:One thing for certain...the GUI graphics on this plug are waaaaaay harder on the eyes than Torben's original GAC-1 graphics.

one more goal to the gullible consumer who can't get enough vintage rack gui's. Let's wait for the threads where someone will state it sounds better than GAC-1, ie. somehow "warmer" and "with more character".

Yeah, I dunno...it doesn't have a glowing tube...

I'm not convinced it's going to glow, full stop...bduffy wrote:Yeah, I dunno...it doesn't have a glowing tube...
Seriously though, when I read the Sonar 6 specs on the web I was quite excited by the upgrade. Now I've seen the full announcement, oggled at the screenshots, and listened to the audio demos, I'm....
... less than sure.
* Take the audio demo of the drum/bass put in time using the fabulous new Audio Snap features. Is it just me or does the bass sound really grainy in the "after" version?
* Also the new mixer... "redesigned for ergonomic mixing"... basically they just made the knobs look more 3D, right? Other than that its the same as before. And in fact, I don't even like the new look... it's way too rugged for my personal taste. Since when was hardware emulation the next big thing...?
* The Analyst spectrum analyzer continues the Cakewalk tradition of producing at least one ugly plugin for each attractive one they produce. It will look damned fine nestling up to the old "Amp Sim" and "Cyclone".
* Session Drummer 2. From what I can see this is just aimed at complete beginners, right? I don;t see that you can load or mangle your own samples, or any of the other lovely stuff that Ableton's Impulse or Reason's ReDrum can do, let alone the great VST drum plugs out there... I think this one's going to me a missed opportunity. But let's see...

You know, as a user of both, I can't help but think, looking at the previews, that there ain't much difference between SONAR and Cubase now!
They even look the same now. I mean, come on!:

I'm not criticizing, it's just interesting how close they're becoming. They were so different when I started this job...
EDIT: Yeah, jeez..."Audio Quantize"..."Track Layers"...it's come full circle now.

Actually I've been thinking about this a lot lately...how much visual input affects my perception of sound, especially when I'm tweaking something. It seems silly I guess but I think my eyes hear things that my ears don't - and vicey versy...Kingston wrote:one more goal to the gullible consumer who can't get enough vintage rack gui's. Anyway - hurray for Kjaerhus - I'll get to see (I mean hear) VC64 in action pretty soon...
