Oh oh... don't misunderstand me... these filters are *not* going to be Virus like. At least, not necessarily.kuniklo wrote:You're looking forward to the more Virus-like filters Urs mentioned in his previous posts (as am I) and then ... something about little horses?
I have a bit mixed feelings, they need a lot of tweaks, but one thing I can say: Last time I heard such a self oscillation was on an analog synth (if we forget the fact that I heard Andy Simper's insane filter emulations
Let's put it so: I got something which could be the base of a great sounding filter, with proper resonance beyond the audible range. It's absolutely clean sounding now, almost like a void character, but I guess that I could model some intrigueing non-linearities easily.
Cheers,

Let's put that evil V-word behind us before this thread turns into another flame war.Urs wrote: Oh oh... don't misunderstand me... these filters are *not* going to be Virus like. At least, not necessarily.
Don't get me wrong - I think Zebra's filters are superb. Lots of choices of genuinely different filters too. Still, I'd really like to see a new filter type with those fatter FabFilter/Vaz K/Vaz S style resonance and drive characteristics. I don't always want that sound but I haven't been able to quite find it in Z2 on those occasions I did want it.I have a bit mixed feelings, they need a lot of tweaks, but one thing I can say: Last time I heard such a self oscillation was on an analog synth (if we forget the fact that I heard Andy Simper's insane filter emulations).
I'll be first in line if you need a tester for it, but first you have to build that uber drumsynth you promised me!Let's put it so: I got something which could be the base of a great sounding filter, with proper resonance beyond the audible range. Ah yeah, that one.kuniklo wrote:I'll be first in line if you need a tester for it, but first you have to build that uber drumsynth you promised me!
I hope that no plugin ever will require as much work as Zebra 2 again. Well, I'm sure of this, because the most work went into the engine, not necessarily the algorithms...
So, let's see what we get this year done out of the current plans:
MFM2
Filterscape 1.5 (2 new plugs)
drum thing
low-cost synth
freeware competition
compressor bundle
rompler
sampler
host
signature synth

Good lord! I'm sure your girlfriend will put a stop to at least half of that!Urs wrote: So, let's see what we get this year done out of the current plans:

Move that drumsynth up to the top! Your only real competition there is Microtonic, which is great but very basic, and Ultrabeat, which is a monster that not even Logic fanatics use.
Zebra isn't already your "signature synth"?

Hehehe... well, yeah, lots of ideas...
... but I really hope it doesn't take 2 years again to get one of them done
Drum thing has good chances, because I already do a drum machine for a German magazine CD. So, some basic knowledge is already here, I just need to add that artificial intelligence thing to it...
At the moment, the compressor bundle is my favourite. People keep asking me for Fishfillets for Intel Mac, and when I tell them the story (no-go...), they ask for an alternative...
Signature synth... in my thinking this is something like software developer + renoun patch designer -> preset machine. Only, I'm gonna work with a really amazing patch designer for this, and the synth is gonna include some of his way-of-working.
Well, ask me in my next life if I got everything done in my previous that I wanted to

There certainly is a dearth of compressor options on the Mac. I wouldn't mind a couple of alternatives, although Voxengo and Kjaerhus have both promised Mac ports. I really do think there's a huge gaping hole in the drum synth market right now though that I think you mightly be uniquely qualified to fill. The new rack features in a lot of hosts make it easier to use a regular synth as a drum instrument but it's still not quite the same as a dedicated tool.At the moment, the compressor bundle is my favourite. You're going to have a hard time topping Zebra 2 I think, but this sounds like an interesting project. Sort of like Papen's Blue, I take it? My vote is for Howard Scarr.Signature synth... in my thinking this is something like software developer + renoun patch designer -> preset machine. You've already done more than most of us so it's all just extra credit from here on out.Well, ask me in my next life if I got everything done in my previous that I wanted to![]()
(Except for the drum synth. That one's due by 06/2007).

Just a short one (tired...):
The compressor bundle won't be the usual thing. Got some spiffy ideas here...
Your vote... let's just say... would be cool, wouldn't it?

Urs,
been away for a long time because, TBH, z2 has just been working for me. I actually forgot that it wasn't a final release
Which only makes me admire your integrity even more in carrying this thing through in exactly the way you said you would. And the end result is brilliant to boot.
thank you so much

Urs' brain has turned into some sort of self-replicating synth-making machine
