urs, urs, urs,
i've been patient
and will continue to be patient
just an urging to pursue

all the pieces are in place
you know you deserve an easy fun project for a change of pace
bundle it with compressors if you want
you'll get my money either way

hey Urs, been trying out the new versions, here's my diagnosis...
-= The Good =-
- CPU meter seems totally stable now when playing a lot of voices
- Unison works perfect (Dual / Quad) modes
-= Bad =-
- Installer doesn't detect VST directory
- I still get a spike when hitting play
- (My Opinion): I don't believe that tails should be cutoff at all, this should be upto the host.
-= GUI Stuff (Being Fussy) =-
- LP vintage2 would be nicer as LP Vintage 2 and grouped just under LP Vintage.
- Range knob is far too close to Portamento, why not move Portamento a little left ?
- The volume knob on osc 1 is labeled Vol while on all other oscs it's labeled Volume, would be nice to have consistent naming.
-= What Would Make This The Perfect Synth For Me =-
- Selectable amount of unison voices upto 8 (or 12) per osc, instead of the Dual / Quad mode.
- On the Sync knob, I wish there was a way to set a much higher range on this to do some really crazy Sync. (it seems to be set to upto 3 octaves at the moment, I would love to be able to go way higher than that in most cases)
- Hold down right mouse button to fine tune values (especially the Tune knob)
Just my thoughts, this synth is incredible, I'd love to see those few extras so we can finally have THE synth, it's currently too hard to get a huge 10 voice unison .. Imagine this ... (forget CPU power) ...
Osc 1, 8 voice unison, running on Sync, Sawtooth Waveform
Osc 2, 8 voice unison, one octave lower, Square wave
Move the sync knob up to crazy amounts while the square wave keeps the depth of the sound alive.

No, it's about clearing buffers of Reverb, Delay and everything. Each instance has to clear out 8 or so MB of RAM...spritex wrote:Hmm, I thought the "spike when hitting play" thing was mostly soundcard/driver related, or was it not after all?
I'm on the case though, but it might require some thought...

It's because he has 37 instances of Zebra on each track...spritex wrote:Ah, and that problem somehow exhibits itself worse with Fots system? (We all get the small spike, but he seemed to have gigantic).

But he claimed that he got much worse spiking than others with the five test patches(instances) as well. At least that's what I understood. The discussion was at the beta forum.
Nevermind, if you can do something about it, it would certainly be good for everybody!

YES!! I'd love to see what you do along these lines. Sign me up.Urs wrote:At the moment, the compressor bundle is my favourite. People keep asking me for Fishfillets for Intel Mac, and when I tell them the story (no-go...), they ask for an alternative...

Yeah. Hehehe, as long as you don't expect analogue emulationstencentcat wrote:YES!! I'd love to see what you do along these lines. I'd like to fill in some gaps that nobody knew of before. Admittedly I don't know much about dynamics in terms of experience, I hardly ever use anything other than limiters, but maybe that's just because most of the stuff isn't right for me. Maybe the stuff has to be different in a way...
However, the next project is More Feedback Machine V2. Already started some stuff here, and as I've had 4 years to think about it, I guess it'll be finished quickly (like I always say...). Hint: I think it'll become like an instrument in a certain way...

Yeah, agreed.spritex wrote:Nevermind, if you can do something about it, it would certainly be good for everybody!
It's getting better with every optimization that I put in though. Remember the "Resets: 5" or so in the debug stuff? I've already reduced the spikes down to 10-20% in many cases where hosts or whatever were just freaking making stuff reset all over the place.
As I said, I'm on the case, but it's rather a long-term thing. Whenever an idea comes up, it gets implemented. And sometimes one has just to wait until algorithms are set in stone, so that you can utilize the knowledge of their behaviour for other optimizations. Thus, as long as I still move stuff around from time to time, i.e. in the delay algorithm (the one with The Big One), one can't pull all the registers to optimize things.
Cheers,

Yes.asseca wrote:"C:\Program Files\u-he"
It's getting better though. It used to be in an ugly separate folder ("uhe_data") in the Vstplugins directory.
I'm slowly extending my Win knowledge, and whenever the time/situation allows for it, I'm moving it forward. My main concern is stability on Windows. That's where I put 90% of my time into, and I'm happy that there have hardly ever been crashes. I think a bit of "unusuality" regarding the installation etc. is acceptable for the time being, whereas any problems that make stuff unusable are not. Fortunately, once it's installed, it runs
The default location key in the Registry is noted, I'll put it in the Installer.

So would removing the "clear" buffer" code fix this ? If so, cmoooooooon, get rid of the clear thing, no other VSTi does that wacky stuff
You rock man, keep up the great work, you have done a stunning job on Zebra

P.S.: I'll stop bugging you about this now, but if you have anything you want me to test, let me know.
