I am not convinced enough to pay over CDN$200 for a bass distortion plugin. I have heard more than enough electric bass in lifetime. I just want big double bass sound.

It's o.k. You don't HAVE to buy EVERYTHING.Beardedone wrote:I am not convinced enough to pay over CDN$200 for a bass distortion plugin. I have heard more than enough electric bass in lifetime. I just want big double bass sound.
Personally, I think AT and AT2 cover my modest bass needs. But then again, I don't OWN a real bass. If I played one, I might think differently.
Cheers

I don't own an electric bass - no big interest in electric bass but I would like to have a double bass on hand and someone to play it well. I really miss my old bass player partner when I lived in Philly.

Actually I'm waiting for my SVX right now (coming in the Total effects pack) with really eager expectation. I finally installed Komplete 3 a few weeks ago and turned on Guitar Rig for the first time. There was only one bass patch there I liked - and it made a MASSIVE difference to my bass. So having lots available in SVX is going to be a treat. This sort of thing is really really worth it.

Funny I find the bass guitars in ST2 and Manystation more than big enough. I ofetn need to back them off. I guess I jsut don't like big electric bass sounds.

No probs. It's just that you always say you don't see the need for it personally. But, of course for the people that like bass amps you can imagine it is a whole other story.Beardedone wrote:Sorry Dave. I am getting at bit old and cranky for loud bass. Got SVX the other day. Using it on all kinds of bass sounds and it really does sound great, really handy for beefing up the arse end of weaker sounds. Lovely little plug.

Thanks for understanding. Though I have little hands on experience with the real hardware having played only in a few electric bands with cheap equipment as a youngster. Way back then the bass sound was horrible- distorted and way too loud. I now have a prejudice againstloud bass and equate it with musical ignorance.Beardedone wrote:

No probs. It's just that you always say you don't see the need for it personally. But, of course for the people that like bass amps you can imagine it is a whole other story. I think your issue is that you just don't like bass amps so naturally the plug-in doesn't appeal to you. Why would it? That's exactly what it is meaning to emulate (and it does that quite well in fact).
I do have the sneaking feeling that I would probably like a high quality bass amp for some things. Years ago (in the 80s I heard a few bass amps (I saw Weather Report a few times and Miles with Marcus Miller) that were acceptable. Once in my short stint playing in a fusion band we were at a competetion and there was this band that had a terrific electric bass player who had a pricy tube amp This guy would notlet anyone even touch the thing. It sounded very round and sweet with the fretless he was playing - also great was that he could played at just a tad above the volume an acoustic bass player and the tone was clearly heard and felt with not jarring resonance. Now if SVX can get that then maybe I would give it a try.

Well try the demo and see. But, you might do just fine without it as well. The bass amp in AT2 isn't bad. I think Ampeg SVX is for people who would really LOVE to have the ultimate bass amp from the ultimate bass amp brand. I mean, I'd like to have those REAL bass amps in my studio but some of them are thousands of dollars. Ampeg SVX does the trick for me! I can't believe I have been without a bass amp in the virtual studio for this long!!!!!! But, I also like the "Chris Squire" bass sound and the "Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" bass sound or the "Radiohead" bass sound... all of which WELCOME disorted aggressive tones... but that's just one of the things a great bass amp can do ADD GUTS to your bass track. However, for jazz/rock styles it can also just beef it up and give it some roundness, some body and even just timbral shaping options (which for bass there's limited available processing besides the usual EQ and dynamics for this kind of "character" changing).
However, I think it is a simple product. One just has to ask themselves "Do I have a bass amp in my studio? Would I like one?" and then just get the best. Done. At www.esoundz.com we've had such a great response from customers who bought Ampeg SVX. Everyone seems to really love this plug-in. But, it's understandable.
I also think that anyone who might be on the fence about it should consider the TOTAL EFFECTS or the TOTAL STUDIO BUNDLES because as long as you wanted some of the other plugs in those bundles things like Ampeg SVX and CSR end up being FREE when you do the math... anyone want a bass amp for free???? Thought so!!!!

Good thoughts Dave. The TOTAL EFFECTS or the TOTAL STUDIO options is not an option since SVX is the only IK product I don't have. I'll check the demo out soon.

Just ordered Ampeg SVX. I wonder how my new Variax Bass will combine with it...
Squids, are there additional esoundz customer presets somewhere? I think there was something like that with AT2 (which I bought directly from IK, not from esoundz, so I don't know exactly...).
