.. I wonder when a band like this is a payola bassed farse do they know it?

To me it sounds like a panned 16th gate effect on the chorus with
a HP filter sweep.

It sounds like a tape delay, 1/8 note time?, with automated feedback causing the delay to swell. The output is then passed through a resonant filter to accentuate the bell like qualities. I would say the guitar is most likely the source of the FX chain.

What effect is this?
