Yeah, believe me, it's just basically REX-ing or ACID-izing in realtime. I agree, it could be smoother. Cubase's Hitpoints setup isn't the quickest thing to deal with. I'm sure Live is better at it, but I like having the feature in Cubase.

Anyway, K-Slash - you be sure to post your experience! :D

Basically... But for someone like me who has relied on Quantizing my Keyboards (I have been doing it since Mastertracks for the Atari)... Quantizing my Guitars now is a must now that I see what can be done (i.e. Ableton Live)

The rhythm in my Head is perfect but doesn't translate well when I record it... Having a DAW tighten up my bad actual rhythm really makes a difference.
So you're saying the Audio Snap in Sonar is better than the Audio Quantize/Warp in Cubase? (not being a fanboy, just curious) I thought tightening performances was pretty easy to do in Cubase.
Why I think it is better is that Cubase uses Destructive Editing... i.e. Changes the Actual wavewform... whereas Applications like Live and Sonar alter it using there own algorithms and then play the processed audio (leaving the orginal file intact)... What if you accidentally screw up on let's say a snare hit... It is a pain in the ass to Reedit it in Cubase since the actual Waveform is all wacky but with "Non-desctructive Editing", making changes are really easy to do. A good example is download Ableton Live's demo (if you don't have it)... and click and drag any loop you have in there... Change the Tempo of the Track... notice how it plays perfect every time.... With Cubase... To get that same level with tempo would really hurt the original Wav (or .AIFF) file if you are not careful.

GThat is what works best for me... Maybe hardcore cubasers have perfected audiowarping better than I did, but Live just felt right to me for that feature:)
Hmmm..."destructive" editing? You sure about that? Audio editing is not destructive in Cubase unless you apply effects directly to a clip, and even then, you can undo that indefinitely into the future; each wave file has its own history.

So are we talking about, say, you got your guitar part; it's off time; you add hitpoints and move/quantize the starting points of the wave file to sync up with the downbeats? I usually just fix stray guitar parts manually, which is still non-destructive - but the audio quantize should be good for this, and is totally non-destructive.

In Cubase 4, editing audio material is a non-destructive operation - all edits are stored in the Task List and can be undone at any time. In addition, an offline process history lets you remove, replace and edit every effect added to an audio file in the course of processing.

There is no Melodyne-functionality! That's just wrong.

ttozyou're the coolest but what do you care???with asignature like that.
The pitch shifting will have formant dectetion and correction, probably it will be edited another way, even if Steinberg bougth the technology from Celemony.

Stability?

 Please! Let's be realistic here.

nonsense menus and praying to the Virgin before setting a single track up, hu? that would be cool just like samp and sonar.

Oh I know: not taking two years to close the "Preferences" and "Device Setup" dialogues! Actually, for all I know that is improved, so I'll take that back 'till I can try it out.

Devices setup! rigth just after changing buffers, innit? just seting up DSPF on logic 5 was a mine field, on Samp i had to use C-Console, incidentally my first thing, i say thing because i don't know what to call it! ah wait from now on samp= "awaste of money" AWM, cause DAW it ain't.
Sonar WDM, paleeze, these dudes have stomach.

Only 2 Instruments in Studio and only 6 in Cubase 4... What the.... :(

One thing which is missing :

64-bit audio engine, I was really hoping for it. But maybe in Cubase 5... or in Nuendo 4 .

How many instruments do you want?! Don't forget the 30 new plugins and 20 re-worked plugins.

Totally. I was a little surprised to not see that. Then again, who needs it.

Wait for Vista dude, you probably don't know but XP 64x is kind of unsuported by MS, read the fine print. Steinberg takes prematurity very seriously. :hihi:
