Although I know I will upgrade to this to some point, my workflow is such that I just don't see awfully many important new features that would actually benefit my music and production.

Seems to me it's the same ol' Steinberg style upgrade, with plenty of slap-on new gadgets, but nothing substantial to improve workflow.

Strip away the ableton style theme tweaks and there's actually awfully little truly new there...

for me anyway.

now if stability has been improved and a few substantial workspace/screenset linking and editor related bugs have been squashed, count me in. :D

It's Studio Magazine, which is a swedish mag - http://www.studio.se/

Oh, ja! I lived in Stockholm for 4 years, many moons ago, so I've forgotten almost all my Swedish. Guess it's of no use to me! That explains how you got it so fast.

Wrong thread, innit?
VST3 with sidechaining and intelligent handling of DSP.
Media Bay also includes browsing ACID style... we have the explorer for that  but these are going to be the best well spent €200 in years for me.

I wonder if it is really a complete rewrite of the core engine... and how the application will benefit from that.

Did they say that?

MPEX 3, printed manual, track presets, transient designer, insert drag, lots of customization possible with presets, media browser, VST 3 with dynamic load, integrated VSTi tracks, control room, lots more, not even considering the new plugs (though most of them will probably be more interesting to newbies), all in all it looks like nothing has happened since SX 1 ! :o

They didn't. I can't say I trust the little birdie that sang to me much anymore... having seen what actually got released.

Right, I thought I missed it or something. Now that would rock. Or it probably wouldn't.

I think the track presets and the media library will be the biggest thing for my workflow. I also love that they finally added instrument tracks so you won't need two tracks for your VSTi's and the fact that you'll be able to click and drag inserts - even between channels! The new effects and instruments look lovely too; I'm especially interested in Halion One with those Motif waves.

Still, all in all the track presets and the media library have me really excited. It just seems to be a well thought out system and promises to be very intuitive to use.

i think the media library is pretty extraordinary actually... it's much more than it sounds like. this is one thing that could have a huge impact on my work. basically everything can be re-used from any project - even entire submixes. but more than re-used..it can be auditioned in the media browser without loading intot the project. So every sample, every vsti patch, every midi part, every electric bass or vocal recording, and so forth becomes a re-usable element..to be browsed and added to another project.
yes, this will help...

@ stag,
:) :) :) :) :) :) :)
no problem for me, I like to state my point of view clearly and enjoy others doing so, too.
I've been learning a lot since I found this place, and been having loads of fun, too.
Of course Cubase 4 can't hold a candle to the bigger hosts like ---censored---, especially those which are costing up to 1/10th of Steinberg's price. :D
I'm a struggling musician, mostly live, but SX has paid back its price several times already. No big stuff, no major releases, but still ...
Plus I immensely enjoy working with it.
Good enough for me. :)

:) hi susi:
Well, you say it better than i susi: I enjoy working with SX too.
Anyway, I think Steinberg is the coolest, they really listen to their user base and find time to come up with exciting new stuff: we asked for browsing loops, they give us Media bay, we ask for sidechaining they give us VST3 and on and on.
I only wonder how the plug developer still have the patience to develop AU :dog:
