It always cracks me up when people endlessly try to figure out some oblique manner to introduce wanted features into Reason. What they NEED to do, to remain competitive, is to simply introduce Audio Recording/Tracks and the ability to use VSTis. Any of the rhetoric that these features introduce stability problems or that Reason is meant simply to be a soft synth and not a DAW are just pure bullshit. If you don't want to use VSTis, and theoretically risk stability, you wouldn't have to. Having a VSTi "Wrapper" built into the program should not effect stability at all. There excuses are so obviously a load of crap that it amazes me that people give them any credence.ericj23 wrote:what reason needs is a new version of the rewire protocol that gives an audio input - abbit like the rebirth thingie but more flexible - then people could use the reason fx on tracks they have recorded in there other mini rewire host - even on vsts if it works with them
now this does not necessarily break the stability of reason - all the vts and audio recording stuff would be the other apps problem, and as long as the rewire thing is tight enough a protocal the data stream should not crash reason
and neither does it break their long held notion that none of these things will be in reason - but this way they kind of will be if you need them
what else can they actually put in the program now to make it better - apart from more fx ? or should i say more attractive to joe punter - because there slow update schedule suggests that they ain't making money from updates
As I have speculated before, I believe that they may bound by a non-competition contract with Steinberg, when they cut ties with them, as a distributor. Hence the introduction of Rewire so that you would be dependent on apps like Cubase (which I believe was the first Rewire Host) for these missing features. Of course I have also been accused of being a "conspiracy theorist" for suggesting such ideas. Yeah, it's such an outlandish idea that companies that have dependent business relations never engage in such contractual agreements.
