What's everyone's problem with Cubase's automation? I had the impression that they were ahead of the curve in that department.

- iPod: I'm told it only loads iTune mp3s - not the stuff I DLed in the Music Café... did i get that wrong?spaceman wrote:cptgone wrote: I just don't get it. It's almost like Apple, once innovative, nowadays strong in marketing gadgety stuff like iMacs and iPods with restricted functionality..
I've owned 4 mp3 players, nothing has ever come close to an iPod what functionality is concerned. The only restriction is 'downloading' songs to your computer but there's a great little app that does just that
and what on earth is so restricted on an iMac?

- iMac (or was it eMac?) is a black box, i prefer computers to have an open architecture, i want to be able to add/remove parts as i see fit, preferrably without voiding the warrant.
computers should be user serviceable and open ended IMHO.

wow, thanks for the tip, that will come in handy!Pouckypluysch wrote:Since it is a workaround you're actually using, it might be good to know that you ca have instant overview by using 'right click'+'show used automation'. The you'll see lanes with automation, applied on everything that is automated for that track, and (to keep it tidy) only for the paramaters that are actually automated.cptgone wrote:there's no overview of what you're doing. if you go back to an old project, the only way to know if a disabled effect is set up to enable itself in some parts of the project is to hit Play and watch the effect's Power knob for the entire song duration... now that's just silly.

You're welcome.
Btw, now I know what you meant, I can imagine your need for the online per clip FX. I always use the offline trick, but that makes adjusting afterwards less convenient.

when it comes to DRM it's iTunes and nothing else, yescptgone wrote: - iPod: I'm told it only loads iTune mp3s - not the stuff I DLed in the Music Café... did i get that wrong?
that's why I refuse to buy tunes with DRM.. so I don't really see that as a restriction
you're as limited as with a laptop- iMac (or was it eMac?) is a black box, i prefer computers to have an open architecture, i want to be able to add/remove parts as i see fit, preferrably without voiding the warrant.
computers should be user serviceable and open ended IMHO.
now that they've gone intel you can stick in different graphics cards if you whish (not all of them work but hey, compared with a laptop, at least you have options now).. you can replace the drive, you can replace the ram, what else do you want to change?
and on top of that you get a great camera, bluetooth, wireless, lan and firewire and a great screen
I don't really see where the iMac user has been restricted compared to say a laptop user
if you want to stick pci and agp cards or 3 hard drives in your puter then you obviously better not get an iMac.. just like I wouldn't advice you to get a laptop

But there also isn't an affordable Mac that does allow you do this. There's a huge gap in their product line between the iMac and the Mac Pro. I, for one, hate their monitors, and I'm not a big fan of integrated graphics either. But I'm not willing to pay a whole lot extra on stuff I don't need, so the Mac Pro is also out of the question. The Mini just doesn't have enough power, considering they just updated and it still doesn't have a Core 2 Duo, and it isn't upgradeable either.spaceman wrote:if you want to stick pci and agp cards or 3 hard drives in your puter then you obviously better not get an iMac.. just like I wouldn't advice you to get a laptop
I would totally buy a Mac, if they made one that actually meets my needs.

What's so relevant about logic?spaceman wrote:an absolute joke compared to Logicsaturdaysaint wrote:What's everyone's problem with Cubase's automation? I had the impression that they were ahead of the curve in that department.

With Cubase, EG Amplitube 2 has more than 60 parameters, all fully automated with Ozonic, plus integration with Yamaha hardware and many more.
What else does logic Cubase didn't do on previous version? roll over and play dead?
It's damn easy to bad mouth: "Logic developers are self centered and their contribution to music software range from nothing to zero". It happens that i believe this but that's way OT i leave that to a fine thread about logic.

my reply was very much on topic.. is there anything better than cubase for automation? "yes, Logic".. If in a Logic thread someone would ask if there's a better host for sample editing, I'd say "yes, Cubase"
now put on your fanboy hat again because you're abviously feeling a bit funny without it
