Perhaps with the exception of the bundled plugs on C4 there are no more plugs with SC implemented yet.bool wrote:I wonder why not sidechaning RIGHT NOW?
Anybody knows the answer? I mean the real reason, not assumptions.

that's not it, there are lots of plugs that do sidechaining (Voxengo, Kjaerhus,...)stag wrote:Perhaps with the exception of the bundled plugs on C4 there are no more plugs with SC implemented yet.bool wrote:I wonder why not sidechaning RIGHT NOW?

I didn't notice any mention on new bundled efx in C4 being able to sidechain. Not a single notice.Perhaps with the exception of the bundled plugs on C4 there are no more plugs with SC implemented yet.

It would be too good to be true if at least compressors would do that. In fact - I'd wish someone ot correct me.

SX too.CWoodOne wrote:Of course Logic sidechains.
wanna know how? it's complicated.
VST3 implementation allow free I\O configuration of VST fx ence SC. I'm afraid not even cool plugs like the named before are up to this specs.
Even if C4 audio engine needs updating, perhaps not before the N4 and VST3 SDK is available SC will be more easy to setup.
Note this is mere speculation but IMO after reading VST3 specs it was clearly that not alone sidechain will be possible but also controling VSTi, like Pentagon, Pro53 etc, with audio alone, among other possibilities.

my point was, you'll prolly have to do it all yourself in Cubase - allthough there will be people sharing their tag files I suppose.Pouckypluysch wrote:If I understand it correctly, it's possible to put vsti-presets in it too. for me the media bay has great potential. everything else is nice and a luxury whereas that could really consolidate and improve my workflow.
i think the 'flatter' gui works better too, less trying to make every button stick out 3d, and more emphasis on whats active.

I agree, but you got to love freely rearrangeable effects, that can also be dragged to another track! That's pretty radical, and I'll bet that'll improve your workflow!martian wrote:for me the media bay has great potential. everything else is nice and a luxury whereas that could really consolidate and improve my workflow.

Is it? It doesn't appear so. I think it's a somewhat popular request here (that I never heard much before last year...), but hasn't seemed to affect the developers at all. I just wonder if it's that important.bool wrote:Why? It's essential.Jesus. Not "Side-chaining" again.

It stinks as well, but that's not very functional, is it?Of course Logic sidechains.
Yeah...it seems to be a buzzword this year. I occasionally use it, but really...we all managed very nicely without it for years and years. I've had sidechaining in a couple of h/w comps for ages...I can't honestly remember ever using it when I was all h/w though. It's a luxury; a nice luxury when you use it properly, but I wouldn't have to stop in the middle of a mix, throw a tantrum and demand I have sidechaining before I continue with the masterpiece.bool wrote:

Oh no...I tell a lie...I used to occasionally use sidechaing to trigger a gate every now and then to make rhythmic pads etc - but I could do that the hard way with midiCC #7 even on Cubase1.

No it's not. Never has been. Why? It's essential.
For sure sidechaining can be useful. But I read some posts and see all manner of crap about how certain tracks have been sidechained to the kick and bass and buss A sidechains to bass buss B...and all those people are hearing is good old fashioned pumping on the master compressor and good mixing.
I read that sidechaining is essential to specific genres - usually electronic dance of some kind. Well for years the commercial tunes were often made in modest studios on simple 16/24 channel mixers with simple compressors. There's alot of myth about how electronic music is and was made. Alot of it is very basic. I remember a few labels' studios where all their music was done. Alot of them consisted of 16 channel mid budget 8buss desks, a Lexicon reverb, a couple of Alesis graphics, a couple of fancy compressors (in terms of sound...not capabilities) and the odd budget multiFX (often Alesis too). Alot of them didn't have fancy monitors, fancy amps, tube this and tube that. Oh I forgot...they all had the obligatory enhancer as well. Usually those nasty SPL things that make horrible rasping open hats that slice right through your ears and into your eyes.
In fact some of the studios only attraction (and they knew it and milked it) were a couple of stands full of analogue synths that the averqage punter couldn't afford. I saw these places all over the North West and Midlands. Some of those engineers probably didn't even know what a sidechain was, I suspect.
And...there were many a bangin' tune released in those days (89 and onwards) that sounded good and sold well. Household names now.
