Ooooooooooh that's been long overdue. Another feature that tempts me to upgrade this time around. Seems there's alot more useful stuff in 4 than there was in 3 (SX3 never temtped me at all).

Yes it was around, but not everyone had one. DP/4s were 7 or 800 quid from what I remember when they were released. Way too expensive for your average small studio. The Lexicon was the big spend, and everything else was often quite budget. I totally agree DP/4s were pretty good, but they didn't sell that well though. Possibly they simply overpriced themselves out of the market.

This update looks to be the truth. It seems to have added many of the things that I found to be great about Logic in my recent switch. Now I wonder if I switched too soon. LOL. Well, I can still upgrade to this version of Cubase. The one thing that I liked about Logic though was that you could see all mixer parameters at once in the Track Inspector. Looking at the Project View screenshot of Cubase 4, it looks like it did before where you could see just one item at a time. It did say that it's customizeable though. I also hope that it's now possible to export all tracks to separate wave files simultaneously. That's at the top of my list.

Yeah, I agree: I wonder why, with larger monitors being common now, they waste all that real estate with one parameter at a time. You could fit most of the important stuff in the Track Inspector, I would think. At least they changed it to a single-click to expand the sections instead of the ol' Carpel-Tunnely double-click.

Ctrl+Click?

Sends the Inspector off the bottom of the screen with no possibility for scrolling. On my 20" iMac display, I can't view a channel strip and an eq at the same time. Half the channel strip is beyond the bottom of the screen.

Yep, they even show them being dragged around in one of the feature videos. Another weird thing is there are rumors everywhere that this is the most stable X.0 release of Cubase ever from beta testers. I guess I'll know for sure when my upgrade gets here in early October. I'm also really excited about these new VST3 plugins. I wonder how long it will take the devs (and also other host developers to push the plugin devs) to move to VST3...

Yep, I saw it with me own two eyes on the online videos: full-on rearranging of effects, and then he drags it over to another channel. I almost crapped myself.

And you know, now that I just upgraded to SX 3, I'm starting to imagine how I got on without it (Colour tracks in the Mixer!), but I agree, 4 is looking like the big one. Good to hear the "Chatter" is positive - Majken is actually running it on his machine right now, but you have to pick up his Swedish magazine to read about it.

Well hopefully with SX 4, you can customize it enough so that it'll fit!

rola: I meant that in SX 2, to expand the Inspector, you had to dbl-click the top of the section; now you just have to click once and it expands.

for me the media bay has great potential. everything else is nice and a luxury whereas that could really consolidate and improve my workflow.

i think the 'flatter' gui works better too, less trying to make every button stick out 3d, and more emphasis on whats active.

certainly thats another must have in any respectable cutting edge daw nowadays. but i rarely feel the need to re-order inserts because ive got so used to not initially placing anything in the first 2 slots of each channel. also the current channel copy/paste system works well for me, when i need to convert a channels setup into a group fe, not v often.

the new instrument track is something i would no doubt use 90% of the time, but again i consider it a minor workflow enhacement, despite being something that should have been there earlier imo. im supprised they didnt make it support muti channel vstis too, and be done with the vst instrument rack the same way the effects rack went, these separate windows are unnecessary and just clutter imo.

all these little things add up. the overall improved workflow from sx1 to sx3 and what i know of 4 is fairly big i think, but could be better.

something that would really help me is a simple single channel sampler track. with no modualtion/filters etc not even a gui, just a little waveform view in the key editor for editing env and loop points. basically a midi track hard wired to a muli sample resampling engine and maybe adding melodyne style timestretch too.

Me to, I don't think much about it.
The pitch shifting with formant detectition is done offline, but for this already exists Melodyne.
There are far more important features missing on this uodate, those only Steinberg could provide: Generic remote, same old mess, perhaps daving the upgrade money to get Novation Remote instead would be smarter. Batch Export: No luck...again. The audio track presets applied as offline process, Dream on

I don't know what to think anymore, i feel like the whole idea of community is a sham... i don't see any major improvemment on my workflow as i didn't saw with SX3, Steinberg seems to focused on trickery and trends, instead of make of Cubase step to its next level. All this IMO.

VST3, okay smart move, but to take advantage of it... better not to hold my breath.
