I like the fragility of the voice at times, but at other times I'd like to see that "confidence" that you yourself have admitted is still missing. Your pitch and phrasing (perfect word, diverdee) are fine, but I'd like to hear a part of Danielle with some power and confidence.

The really "fragile" quality reminds me of-- and forgive me for making comparisons!-- Chantal Kreviazuk. But Chantal K is also very capable of powerful delivery. I don't think that one necessarily precludes the other. In other words, I know that many of your admirers here will advise you to focus on the particular style you're displaying in songs like "Spite," but I think you'd be well served to develop all aspects of your singing.

Pretty sweet song! I love the way the percussion unintentionally sounds like a typewriter.

I know what your saying Lunch Money & I agree.
The occasional more powerful 'swell' in the vocals would add some extra emotional resonance to an already wonderful track.
I'm playing this again as I write this - really very taken with it.
As a one time vocalist I understand how difficult it can be to get over the confidence 'hump' (& I freely admit I was fairly pants - I just stopped caring & enjoyed gigging to much to care anymore).
breathehope you have no reason to lack confidence, seriously.

danielle,
welcome back.....good to hear you are still into music. i thought we lost you there... :)
I really like the the vibes in this song and your voice is great but I agree with the comments about bringing your vocals to the front of the mix by either eq-ing or changing the dynamics of your voice as you sing and bringing up the levels.
i really like the idea of using field recordings for songs as I often use "found" sounds for my songs, but those sounds are covering the most important part of the song....your voice. :)
If you want to do another song sometime, let me know. i'd be happy to.

Danielle,

Very nice! :)

Any comment I would have has already been stated, but for posterity's sake:

I love the 'lullaby' feel to this, and the vocal fx at around 2:55 is just spot on.

Again:

Vurt is my messenger. :) Yes I'm still here. I just don't read as often, I can't keep up with everything.

Thank you bump this song, its one of my favorites, can't wait to do it live.

So glad this got bumped - I can't believe I didn't bump it myself as this is one of those real gems I found at KVR which I regularly play when I feel like listening to something pure & beautiful to destress myself.
It's like a soothing massage for the mind & senses.
