Just thought I'd make another gushing post as to the fantasticness of Blender's gui design, it originally took me a little while to get my head around all that freedom, before the "why arn't all interfaces designed this way"s started falling from my quivering lips.

imagine cascaded vst(i)/comp windows and you can access every window by hovering your mouse over it so that it comes to the front.jorgen wrote:audo hide windows? how should that work?
it's rather a convenient feature than a real functionality. a minor idea that popped into my train of thought

So back to the original post.soma wrote:Split from FR- improvements for midi controljorgen wrote:btw, extending the "dock page" functionality is any interesting topic as well. could be all sorts of features like midi mapping, mute/solo (for live presets) etc. An optional memo box at the bottom of each page could be usefull.
cheers
jorgen
Anyone have any other feature ideas beyond midi mapping for docks?

Putting docks onto seperate monitors perhaps? I wouldn't use it, I only got the one... but it would be a cool feature that I'd support.

bump- because the editor is coming soon and there was such a great interest in "docking" solutions.

I hope this doesn't get lost in a thread full of super-duper docking madness, but....
2) XT2 should allow resizable VSTs to maximise in the docking window. Currently if you dock something like the XT2 mixer in XT2 you have a maximise button that allows you to get rid of the window trimmings and take up all available screen real estate within the docking tab. I would like to be able to do the same thing with resizable VSTs - in particular the EnergyXT1 and XT2 VST plug-ins.
-EDIT- I've thought about it and although I'd like it - I'd like it only if you don't lose the scrollbars in the VST itself. Also, there would need to be something else. One of the reasons this would be good for me is so that I can toggle the browser view and the docked plug-in would resize in the x direction so this would need to be handled as well.
Maybe this is too much to bother implementing when I start putting it all down like this.
Regards
Caleb

- Option for resizing all the Page buttons to fit the screen width.
- If there is only one window docked on a page, the page should automatically rename if the window does (clip edit windows)(an option for displaying more than one edit window would also be nice sometimes)
Speaking of window titles: Effect Plug-in windows should have the track name in the title bar, after or before the plugin name, plus the position in the insert chain.

I'd like to see ctrl-tab move between err... tabs, and tab move between open windows. Also, shift-ctrl-tab and shift-tab to move in the other direction. This seems to be general behaviour (windows, firefox, some linux-distros i've tried...)
Right now when you press shift-control-tab, it just cycles in the standard direction. alternating control-tab and shift-control-tab makes it easy to switch between two plugins, especially when they fill the entire screen, and therefor overlap eachother completely.

if a component is docked and I double click on it in the comp view, can XT2 please not only open that dock but also move the focus to that component?
Right now if I have 30 plugins in a dock they are hard to find.
Also can there be a command to close all open VST GUI's in the compview?
And Ctrl+tab to switch to last dock like alt+tab works for appliacctions in windows.
Perhaps even shift+tab to switch to last touched GUI.
