On an italian audio forum we did a test bouncing 1,30 mins of music in different softwares, including tracktion (i was the one who did the bounce in tracktion actually :))

the bounces where made importing 16 tracks into the daw and bouncing to disk without doing any adjustment.

Listen to the files and let me know!

here's the link: http://www.digitallcube.com/megatest.htm

sorry, it's in italian only, but it should be easy to dowload the files

Is it just me or does the Tracktion file not play as loud as the others? :-o

Post

yes it doesn't tracktion default to -3db on the master while all the other daw default to 0db

since the rules where "do not touch anything" the reacktoun bounce is not as loud as the others

Post

:dog: I think you need to change the rules to "do not touch anything unless the master fader defaults to -3dB"

That and the panning law..which in these test's have to be the same for a fair comparison.

i don't think the panning law is a problem here since the tracks where stereo and already panned. :)

reagrding the -3db i know that it make sense, in fact listening in my studio i added 3db to the tracktion mix before doing any test.

I found that the bounces sounds quite different, try reversing the phases you'll se that tracktion has a lot of bass content respect to cubase for example and that ProTools is the brightest, that's at least what i found

That may be the case but I would set each DAW up so they were the same regardless....only to be sure :)

Cheers.

The only thing I found, is the Tracktion file sounding a little "mumbling" compared to the other files. Can be the -3dB. Perhaps you should redo the rendering in Tracktion, since not everyone who listens to the files will know the differences in the hosts.

Someone could also load all the files into HarBal and compare the average eq lines.

I don't trust the test frankly. For a start there's a nasty digital click 44.5 seconds into the Tracktion file, but not in any of the others that I checked... where did that come from?

Post

dithering disabled on all test candidates, right?
Someone shot the food. Remember: don't shoot food!
