What about right clicking and selecting "Build Loop Object"?

that's not the same thing ;-)
What is it clip ghosting or instancing and what advantages does it have? Please elaborate.

say you have a song with two chorusses and two verses - both song-parts would usually share basically the same characteristics on both occassions they appear. Hence most of the objects which are parts of these parts should also be identical on both occassions. And that's what ghost-clips are for. You only have one editable clip-object how many instances of it may ever appear, and wherever in the project they may appear - and whenever you edit one of its characteristics anywhere the change automatically takes place everywhere.

So coming back to the example mentioned above it means e.g. if you want to change the gain on a guitar-clip of verse1 then the gain changes on verse2 two as well.

Without ghosted clips you either need to edit all clip-objects manually or you delete them and copy again... :)

b.t.w.: this is pure object-orientation - so it's a bit of a strange thing that those classic object orientated sequencers like Samplitude and Tracktion do not have this feature... :?

Post

Hybrid Engine, does that work well ? Looks like what I've been waiting for in SX.

Also, does Samp support Vst-Midi plugs, multi midi plugs routing ?

Thanks

The demo doesn't seem to be available any more :(

Thank you for the explanation Jens :) it sounds similar to the way Aliases are used in Logic . I can understand the need for something like this but personally I tend work in a more linear fashion and rather than copying the same verse or chorus I prefer to play it in again for more variation or try and get a good live performance from the player or singer. But then again I'm not exactly doing music that requires the kind of repetition that clip ghosting provides . As I have been working on a progressive rock project I'm sure you know what I mean . Although I'm open-minded to all kinds working methods be it live or loop based or a combination of the two and rules are made to be broken and can sometimes result in something more interesting.

My copy of V9 hasn't arrived yet so I can't tell you how well the Hybrid Engine works although the developers seem very confident. Yes Samplitude supports VST plug-ins. How do you mean by multi midi plugs routing ?

Thanks, very interested :)

I mean, so called vst-midi plugs, these plugs can send midi back to the host or to another vst(i).

Some host handle very well midi from one plug to the other, some don't and some can't deal at all with midi plugs.

Boy I can't wait to hear your impressions Kraznet... and while I'm at it, thanks for clearing up some confusion about Sam. Both you and Sascha are doing a great job fielding questions and concerns. You're both very professional and I trust your responses.

Oh my, I do hope not too much improvement has been done on the midi section or I'll be in the poor house again.

Take care and enjoy your V9 when you get it.

I can do that in Logic 5.5.1: Eventlist/select equal subpositions (shift+P).

But I'm very interested in your Samplitude V9 experience. If the midi is good enough now,
I will follow.

Sascha, any news on the demo version of Samplitude 9?

Sorry, not yet. I guess it will still take a few weeks. Some of the team just came back from vacation. And I haven't build demo versions of my stuff yet...

The problem with the "select equal suppositions" is that it selects every note of that supposition. Whereas if you want to select just the suppositions of F# for instance it doesn't seem possible. I tried to achieve the same result using the Transform editor but I never quite worked out how to do it.

With regards to Midi in Samplitude V9 there have been some improvements like a mute tool and also a tool for splitting notes in the Midi editor. But I am a little disappointed more progress wasn't made on this front. I think they spent more time working on the new score editor. Hopefully further improvements will be made in the next incremental updates. But for now I would say Logic wins in the Midi Department.

MIDI is THERE folks. Samplitude 9 is rockin'!

Looking at drum scores from MIDI / dfhSuperior drum sequences now.

Next trial will be to check any potential latency in recording MIDI guitar in real time and watch it appear up on the score. Lots of variable that would effect latency I know, but I'm interested in how well it performs on the heavier tasks.

Stay tuned!

Don't ask me, I just play here.

I guess you're right on that point. But you can isolate the hihat notes by: Arrange/function/split/demix by notepitch and then select equal suppositions (in Logic).

But of course we're talking Samplitude v9 here.

There also seems to be "Selektion umkehren, Überlappungen entfernen, Legato-Funktion".
I think this means: Toggle selection, Note overlap correction, Note force legato.

Please keep us informed Kraznet.

What is this new "Hybrid engine" that keeps being mentioned. Is it intended as an advance on ASIO2 - I presume by the name it's still based on ASIO but "hybridised" with something else but what and how?

There was some discussion on this a week or two back (in this thread?) - basically it seemed that there were (as in Logic) two different buffering schemes running in parallel. Tracks needing low latency (ie live performance, currently recording) would have small buffers and other prerecorded tracks would have bigger (more efficient) buffers resulting in a net CPU saving.
