The word for the past year on what Joseph Brandstetter (the guy who now owns the Rhodes TM) has been planning is five new models of actual electromechanical pianos, rather than digital in the vein of the Nord thing. Rumoured to be extensions of the Mk V design, lighter, support MIDI, with 73 and 88 key versions.lfm wrote:It's probably because the new generation will likely be electronic stuff, possibly based on a rompler type of keyboard.
Supposed to be shown at Winter NAMM.

Here's a 2005 letter from Joseph Brandstetters' lawyer threatening someone else for using the Rhodes name ...
Great lawyer - note how he puts Joseph's hotlinked email address there at the end :

I dunno, defending an acquired trademark is nothing new in business. And surprisingly, that lawyer is pretty low on the dickhead factor. I've gotten letters in the past from lawyers for Sony, Universal, Paramount/Viacom, the Olympics and whoever looks after the Harry Potter license, all much higher on the dickhead factor (in case you wondering, I used to work for a phone company, in the department that got the letters from dickhead lawyers).
And with regards to the Super Site, they obviously worked the situation out:

... I don't want to interrupt the discussion
, but have you all noticed that the RSP will distributed under the brand name CEP from now on (if I'm not mistaken)...
www.scarbee.com
So I wouldn't care, if some jerk will be sueing everyone who uses the name "Rhodes", as long as Scarbee and their wonderful product are safe (which they seem to be now)...
