Then they could at least insert "old host behaviour". I mean, nobody will switch to Windows Vista in an instant.
Cubase 4 is a complete new engine, they should at least offer possibilities to those who like their old stuff and still need it, till something new (alas updated) comes out.
At least that's how it should usually be - but Steinberg was and is always special.

Culture needed Old Host Behavior to work in Cubase SX 2 when it came out. I'm not sure if they ever updated it to NOT need that setting. Guess I'll find out here shortly.ttoz wrote:I actually never understood which plugins DID need the "old host behaviour" option ticked in SX3. I mean, what would be a symptom if a plug needed this "ticked"?? Would it just not work? I never ticked it with any of my plugins, however I did and still do have many audio dropouts and always wondered if this had something to do with it, or if cubase audio engine is simply f**ked.

FWIW, I have the upgrade. In SX2 I had to select "Old Host Behavior" for Prosoniq Roomulator plugins I use from time to time. They seem to be working fine here out of the box.
Btw, C4 is pretty nice, but be warned there are some thing people will really hate. And so it goes...

I've heard the Lynx card is The One To Rule Them All. Freakin' expensive though, arne't they?ttoz wrote:well the audio dropouts are finally solved courtesy of a LynxL22 audio card. I can also go to 95% cpu in live on 64 sample buffer without any pops or clicks (simply not possible with any other audio card and Live)..so I guess it's true, not all drivers are created equal. Goodbye Egosys, and M-audio.

Oh really? Anything that will unsettle even a Cubase-lover such as I? Some major changes in workflow?MickGael wrote:FWIW, I have the upgrade. In SX2 I had to select "Old Host Behavior" for Prosoniq Roomulator plugins I use from time to time. They seem to be working fine here out of the box.

Thirty....Two...Ambi...ences....UNgh...Too...Much...Power, Captain....

EDIT: Wow, so it's that big a difference, eh? I noticed - even though I'm getting dropout problems - I could run much further into the red with my EMU 1212m than my previous card. Huhn. Guess I'll start saving!

You can get a Lynx card for $600 US?
Hmmm...I've never really checked them out...I just assumed they were more than that. Last time I bought a card, it was an Aardvark...cost me close to $1500 NZ. So $600 US is reasonable I suppose - around $1200 or less at the moment (although my Aardvark was 4in/6out). Especially as I'll have to get a new card once WinXP goes out of fashion.
What's the general consensus on Lynx vs RME? Similar quality?

Well, one thing that I really have a problem with is how C4 handles subfolders. Dunno if you followed the thread, but VST 3 does not recognize your folder strcuture. The way the pulgins are ordered is based on the code used in the plugin itself.
I have many plugins, and I've grown to rely on my specific ordering. The new standard effectively adds a new top-level layer to all existing plugins. This is really slowing me down, and hurts usabilty.

And then there is dropping Direct X with no advance notice...
But I can say the new plugins are very nice (new compressors and EQs are quite a step-up from previous version), and the synths are definitely not throw away...

Hey ttoz - do you know how the Lynx One compares to the L22? Is the L22 the minimum for that type of performance? Because the One goes for $450 and has two balanced I/O.ttoz wrote:go to jrrshop.com and put the forum code discount at checkout for 10%. then speak to Eric about shipping values.kritikon wrote:You can get a Lynx card for $600 US?

4 analog i/o but there's a wealth of digital options, a spdif i/o and a mixer with about 20 outputs so i dont have any idea how they are accessed, I am only using the analog i/o. the model i got was the L22.

Oh yes, I followed that thread! I can't believe they did that. I mean, I'll live, but just seems odd to force you to do things a certain way. Good to hear about the plugins, though!MickGael wrote:Hi bduffy ,bduffy wrote:Oh really? Anything that will unsettle even a Cubase-lover such as I? Yea, I gotta hope I adjust...It feels really, really clunky.bduffy wrote:Oh yes, I followed that thread! I can't believe they did that. I mean, I'll live, but just seems odd to force you to do things a certain way. Good to hear about the plugins, though!
I think you'll be surprised at the quality of most of the new plugins. For example, speaking as a guitarist, the amp sim plugin, is really pretty good.
Parenthetically, I also wonder how many of old "old" effects have simply been re-skinned, or if they've been re-done. It could just be my "eyes" talking, but a lot of them sound noticeably better. Think I'll post something on cubase.net...

I believe the copy said specifically that the old plugins' code was updated as well.MickGael wrote:Yea, I gotta hope I adjust...It feels really, really clunky.bduffy wrote:Oh yes, I followed that thread! Amp sim! Forgot about that. I assumed they just took the code from the miserable failure "Warp" and wrapped it.
