Tested and working fine in Ableton 6.0.1. P4 3.6Ghz/1GB RAM/ATi X600 265MB

Amazing work, really brilliant stuff. Can't wait to see what next (and at last an excuse to upgrade my GFX card :-))

The latest delay works perfectly on my system now. I'm having fun turning drum loops into flanged robotic sounds.

The chorus still doesn't work. It loads ok but on playback there is a glitch and then no sound. The track meter shows an overload of audio.

A way to do the chorus with another approach so it will work
on the Radeon 9550 series? :wink:

I have the same card so that's probably why we get similar results. Mine is AGP 8X.

Hello,

just checked wikipedia for your graphics boards. Unfortunately, they don't support Pixel Shaders 2.0b and therefore are unable to run the chorus :( I'm sorry.

AGP 8x is better but has nothing to do with features, only with bandwidth (the number of possible instances)

That's a shame. :( Are all the plugins going to need PS 2.0b? If so, is there a list of cards that support PS 2.0b? How can we find out the correct card to buy? :?

Thanks for the very useful link. 8) I've just checked and all the ATi 6xxx and 9xxx cards are PS2.0.

You're not going to believe this but nearly all the NVidia GForce FX cards are PS2.0b.

What a f**king bummer! :x This means that low end NVidia cards comparable to low end ATi 6xxx cards can run the chorus but even high end ATi 9xxx cards can't. :roll:

The moral of the story - don't buy ATi cards if you want to run these plugins. Otherwise you're going to have to pay twice as much for an ATi card to run GPU plugins that run on an NVidia card costing half the price.

I'm seriously pissed off that I bought ATi now. :cry:

I'll try to compile a list of all PS2.0b cards.

Guess I should add that the latest version of the chorus works fine on my shiny new Asus 7600GS Silent GPU.

Ok I've gone through the list and here are the results:

Cards with PS2.0b

ATI
All Radeon Xxxx cards
Mobility Radeon 9800 256MB (That's it!)

NVidia
All GeForce FX 5xxx cards

Cards with PS3

ATi
All Radeon Xxxxx cards

NVidia
All GeForce 6xxx cards
All GeForce 7xxx cards

Everything else is PS2 or lower. :(

Just to emphasise why NVidia is the best buy if you want to run GPU plugins compare these two:

Cheapest PS3 NVidia card at Micro Direct is £29.26

Cheapest PS3 ATI card at Micro Direct is £46.65

Does it make a difference whether the card has a 64bit or 128bit memory interface?

The NVidia GForce 6xxx have 64bit and the 7xxx have 128bit memory interfaces. If it's going to make a difference then I'll spend a bit more for a 7xxx.

I know it's contrary to your experience, but the ATI SM3.0 cards will have substantially better dynamic branching performance than Nvidia cards when that feature is used. I'm guessing that won't sway your opinion much however.

I'm not sure if that affects GPU plugin development. It would be helpful to have a list of video card features that help GPU plugin development so that those of us wanting to upgrade can choose the best card within our budget.
