Okay, so I found this effect in my plugin folder, and it's clear it's a u-he creation - but I'm not sure how I got it in the first place. All I know is, I love it! This is the reverb plugin I've been desiring forever! So how can I get the full version which doesn't assault my ears with random blasts of noise, and preferably has a manual? I don't understand 100% of the parameters, and some charts for the different routing modes would be helpful.

Post

You got it with the Zebra demo, and the way you get the full version is to buy Zebra...

As far as I know, there isn't any manual. It's the same reverb that's in Zebra, though- maybe the online manual for that will answer your questions.

As far as I understood, it's the Zebra2 reverb opened up with a scalpel. The Zebra2 reverb "types" have been somehow made by finding out good settings on the ZRev.

I see ZRev as an experimental bonus.

Post

Yes, ZRev is basically 8 delays (left side) and 8 delay-based allpass filters (right side) that are connected in different feedback matrices and signal flows.

You can set the delay time for each delay/allpass, and the actual ratio between these is crucial for the sound of the reverb.- Some say that prime numbers are good, but the real deal is try and listen, try and listen, try and listen

Anybody who finds a great room with close to *no* metallic ringing may just send me the preset and I'll put an optimized version into Zebra2 8)

Cheers,

;) Urs

What's fun for me, though, is to try and create presets w/ MAX ringing. When doing sound effect design (spell sounds for a video game) ZRev is very handy.

And that's what I love about ZRev, it's the first reverb I've used that doesn't appear to be specifically tailored towards producing the traditional reverb effects, i.e. room, plate, ambience, etc. I know eventide boxes and the like can do stuff like that, but I don't exactly have that kind of scratch. I love the sound design possibilities. Also the smoothness of the parameter adjustment is unrivalled.

Well, it looks like I'm getting Zebra 2, damn. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't *want* Zebra 2, I just didn't need it since I'm pretty pleased with my current synth arsenal. But I've been in need of a good reverb for a while, and I was going to settle for CSR and try to squeeze what I want out of it but this is much better. :)

Oh Urs - I have a Radikal Technologies Spectralis, it's pretty new but it is an analog hybrid and it's a $2500 piece of kit. I've also got a Korg DSS-1 (12-bit sampler with analog filters), Ensoniq Mirage(8-bit sampler with analog filters), and E-mu Emax II (no analog and 16-bits, but it's definitely got it's own vibe and it looks rather dinosaur-y), would any of those qualify for the dinosaur upgrade?

Urs,

Maybe create a random button that randomizes things - press that a few thousand times and you have no choice but to get what you want - law of large numbers dude!!!

Are there random buttons in Zebra2? That would kick serious butt. Automatic preset creation and good starting points.

There's much better stuff in the works than a basic randomiser. Urs has made almost the entire engine inside Z2 scriptable, so not only will there be tons of random script-type things, you could even roll your own...

Sounds cool to me! - I love those pics with Replace&Retirement of whole studio setups!

Yes.

Look into Zebra Scripts, there's a Random XY preset. All it does is randomly setting up the XYs for the current patch. And then you can non-destrcutively randomize the current patch in 8 ways of freedom. Or just reload the randmonizer patch...

Unfortunately I hadn't had any time to document the u-he Virtual Machine (nor test it in depth  ), but I guess there's gonna be a s'load of useful Randomizers and little utility-patches soon!

If anyone is interested I already made some oscillator waveform generators/randomizers... gotta post them somewhere...

Bah, don't bother. I really don't want them anymore. :x

:hihi:

Of course, I'd like to see them - no matter how experimental at this point!

Post

Urs you can post the scripts to the area51beta

and we can see how they work and maybe fine tune them.

I'm opening this one back up, as I've been playing with ZRev and its just about flat out Perfect! But still no docu??? I mean I'm sick of guessing what each control means, short of the ones that have a label. Urs, you still on the fence about this one??
Why cry about your own desires, when I could have them and leave you standing in the sadness of your own....

Sorry, no docs...

T0 - T7 are comb filter delay times
AP0 - AP7 are allpass filter delay times
Col1/2 are diffusion
Diff is Decay

Mode sets the structure of the delays (which feeds into which etc.). The relative setting of the times determine the quality of the room. The more irregular these are set, the better.

All other things are pretty much what you normally have in a reverb.

That's all I can give you...
