I remember NI as a standalone company with no connection to steinberg since long before Pro-52 was even a product....back in the days of Generator, which was fascinating tech at the time, but not something i could afford. Generator morphed into Reaktor as it matured, and Pro-52 spun out of their dev cycle shortly after.

I also recall Propellerhead's early days when they only had ReCycle, and it was mostly used with hardware samplers and (i believe) was initially only for Apple computers - a Swedish standalone company also with no connection to Steinberg that I am aware of.

(ps. I don't consider "developed by an ex-steinberg employee for his new employer" to count, for pretty obvious reasons - sort of like saying that the Swedish security firm who currently employs me used to wash dishes at O'Toole's Roadhouse in Ottawa!)

your missing a masive bit of history i'm afriad - both were oriingally distributed by steinberg and had they borgs logo all over the boxes

i suppose that means there just may be hope for XPhraze, GRM Tools and the WizooVerb's

(to be fair, now that i think about it, the 'Borg has been pretty kind to HALion's lineage as well.....)

Actually, I think Steinberg was the distributor of ReCycle for propellerhead, but that's it.

Pro-52, and Pro-5 before that has been NI from the start as far as I know.

A slightly different question...does Wizooverb have anything going for it that SIR doesn't? Aside from (for now) ongoing development?

Algorythmic reverb(in addition to IR), ability to 'morph' the 2, zero latency, 'true' stereo IR's(have to read the manual on that one-but cool), alot more control and versatily (although SIR offers more EQ points).
I love SIR and still use it for a quick track insert its very easy and quick to set-up, but Wizoo is now my goto for a return(more work when dealing with latency in my DAW), and when I'm looking for something 'smoother' as an option.

I think wizoo has a better and cleaner sounding convo engine, the two reverbs definitely sound different. You may want to run the same impulse response threw both convo verbs with desired settings to see for yourself. Wizoo also sounds more open to me. W2 is bloody good.

For small spread ambiences to use on vocals etc its excellent better than any verb I demoed. I love the stereo parameter.

Plenty of useful presets for those of us who want to mix quickly, rather than spend 6 hours fiddling with verb params. Its just 'gets me there' very rapidly.

100 bucks is a steal even if its a dead donut. It even comes in a nice box...how nostalgic! I'll still be using it in 10 years. My only worry is issues with the authorization should the product be discontinued.

Theres plenty under the hood to dig into should I find the time.

Once I updgrade to a dual core, CPU use will be much less of an issue.

I had issues running under FLStudio though.

Reaper is fine.

It sounds ten times better? I am not saying that SIR is not good but compared to Wizooverb...?

it fine in FLStudio you just have to select use "fixed buffers".
