Thanks all :)

@markheath - I doubt that FreeAmp3 will have convolution included, as I'm not a programer and there are none yet for SE :( But will be making a version of just the amp also! so people can use what ever VST plugins they want :) I'm having big fun with Drive5, creating different chains of FX and using different speaker IR's. And yep! will for sure try to add more types to FreeAmp3's built in speaker emulations.

OK! back to work on FreeAmp3 8)

is there an analog placebo switch?

Nah! But if you close your eyes, click your heels together three times and keep repeating "There is no sound as good as analog, There is no sound as good as analog, There is no sound as good as analog, There is no sound as good as analog"

You won't believe how analog it will sound :)

This is a bit off the wall, but maybe it could be done:

Create a module in the FX section that would emulate the tuned feedback oscillation created by an Ebow. It would need these features to be really playable:

1. An off switch that cuts it completely out of the CPU usage of the main app
2. A way to set an envelope for at least the rise of the feedback
3. A separate attenuation/compression setting that would squash the feedback vol at a preset lvl
4. Options on whether the feedback would be an octave or fifth above the fundamental
5. A blend knob for #4 in case you wanted a bit of both
6. Make it go above and beyond an Ebow by offering all of the above for each string

Can't think of more, now, but that's a start.

OK, I haven't plowed through all 11 pages of back posts, but the comments above are pretty spot-on for my tastes. I say:

1. Reduce the CPU usage - Since I already found some killer buzz tones in FA2, all I really want is lighter CPU abuse. Which leads to point 2.

2. Make the Guitar Synth a seperate effect! This seems like the obvious answer to point 1. These are two good effects that seem to be killing each other trying to live at the same address. Or at least offer a version that is synth free.

3. Add the ability to move the effects order around (Slayer2 comes to mind).

4. Add a small 5-10 band Graphic EQ instead of the 3 bander.

5. Add the Feedback option, basically as described by Shane above, with those controls and options. Again Slayer2 comes to mind.

6. Add an ADSR function for getting those volume pedal/E-bow effects and to help tailor the bite, punch and hang of some of the nastier tones.

7. Make the knobs and text over them a little larger - some of us are becoming ancients and need a hand with our fancy electronical gadgets. Plus sometimes I'm not sitting right at my screen when playing the g-tar so bigger letters could help on both fronts.

8. Open up the sound. Have to agree with a previous poster that sometimes the great tones in FA2 were a little boxy and not as open and full frequencied as I might want. BUT, don't change the killer tone you can get in the current FA2! Now THERE'S something to dance around! May be a place where the 5-10 band EQ might help, I dunno.

9. Add a Stereo Enchancing circuit. I currently use the Chorus set on minimal delay and mod setting, but a true Stereo Enhancer effect would be great for those full, double-tracked tones that you can ALMOST get with the current Chorus. Yes, I know you can use the Delay, but it's not the same. Plus now you've used up your Delay and then can't get those soaring 300ms lead reflections!

10. Add a PayPal donation box to your site. I for one would send a few sheckles your way for all the great work!

That's all that comes to mind at the moment, but JOB ONE in my mind is to find a way to access the core great tones with much reduced CPU abuse.

The only two I want really is less CPU usage (move the synth to a seperate plugin maybe?) and to have the effects be modular so we can move the order around.

Never played with an ebow? don't it use an elecro-magnetic field to vibrate the string? Like I said never tried one, so I'm not too sure?
But that does bring up some interesting ideas for a hardware feedback device, tied to the amp-sims internal structure? Damn! now you got me wanting to dig out the soldering iron and give it a shot :hihi:

1. Yep! will try to get the CPU use down, I plan to make a couple different versions, which should help?

2. I wish removing the synth was the solution! Right now with the synth and the ring modulator turned off, the whole guitsyn circuit uses only about .05% on my athlon 2400+. But like I said in #1 I do plan to make cut down versions for those who want to use no FX or there favorite VST's.

3. SE wont let me do feedbacks! so I can't make a fx matrix to change the FX order, but I do plan to make each FX usable pre or post amp. Any sugestion on the order you would like to have would be cool.

4. I never really liked graphic eq's on amps that I have played, But will give it a shot as it has been many years since I tried using them for guitar.

5. Again SE don't let me too much with feedback circuits, But Shane does have me thinking of other ways that it might be done?

6. Right now you can use guitsyn to do that, but I suppose a cut down FX like the boss swell pedal might be a good idea and would use less CPU then using the whole synth section.

7. Yep! my glasses are getting kind of thick also! will mke it a bit more easy to view in the next version.

8. That is part of the reason for starting the new version, Now I just have to make it work?

9. Stereo enhancer, great idea never thought to add one in freeamp will see what I can come up with?

10. OK! after about 100 requests for this I will put together a paypal account next week, Thanks to all who have requested a donate link :)

Peace

1. Knowing you're aware of the problem is all we need to know - I'm sure you're doing all you can on the situation.

2. I kinda imagined the Guitar Synth didn't add that much to the CPU drain. But a FreeAmp3 Lite with reduced effects would be nice. Personally, I just need the amp (with cab and mic sim, and EQ) and the OD pedal, to get 95% of my fave sound. maybe a Compressor could be included for sustain.

3. Effect pedal order is fine as it is, but it's just fun to experiment. The added pre/post parameter would be nice.

4. OK if you hate GRAPHIC EQs, then how about 3 rotaries with quasi-parametric freq. adjust. That oughta do it!

5. The feedback would be coool! But not essential.

6. I know the ADSR is way off standard amp/gtr setup, but I was just thinking of the many ways it could be useful. Also seems like triggering could be a pain. Again, just thinking outloud. Works better on a synth input.

7. The type size of the "amp section Drive, Chub, Variac, Low, Mid Hi, Contour, Vol." is good... maybe a little smaller, but not too much. Then you can read the peadls from about 5 feet away so we can all stand and play. Also wouldn't mind the chrome effect on the knobs being a little less contrasty so you could see the knob position clearer. Minor point.

8. Cool, but don't lose the old sound! :)

9. Even a second Delay with a width and/or pan control could do it. But it seems like something that would be relatively easy to add as a one-knobber on the amp panel.

10. Just say the word when it's ready!

Can't wait to see the new FA3! Good luck!

Also wanted to post here that the donation link has been added to my site http://frettedsynth.com any help would be very welcome, but please only if you can afford to do so.

Hi,

Where do you want feedback in frettedsynth his plugin ?

Synthedit does have a ( delayed ) feedback module, it does work but not good enough. ( altho i heard that the nord modular also has a delayed feedback module..don't hear anyone complaining about that hehe :hihi: )
If you could say where he should add feedback he could try asking a developer to build some dist module or so with feedback built in.
That would solve it :P

Rob.
