what i miss it the scraping emulation on the attack, that occours randomly when the finger/fingernail doesnt pluck the string accurately ... and the neck movements from the chordgrabbing hand, when sliding to another chord ...
but really nice, you're on the right way!
when is it to be released?
could you give me an example of that "scraping sound"?
neck movements are done, but not implemented yet (a bit tricky to choose when it should happen : on a real guitar, it happens between 2 chord strucks, but here, you can't really tell "i'm moving my hand", if no note has been triggered. the only solution I found is to make it happen while changing hand position withh the hand position controller)

about humbucker sound...

in fact, the actual version is based on my guitar (a yamaha pacifica 112), wich has a humbucker at the bridge, and regular pickup at neck.
So I could say the pickup changes from a humbucker at bridge to a single coil when you move it to the neck, wich is a bit odd.

IF SOMEONE can send me 2 strat E1 attacks : one with bridge single coil, and one with neck single coil, I could probably make a definitive difference of the influence over sound of the pickup position and the fact it is a single coil or humbucker. That would help me much !

Wow, this sounds pretty nice! Any idea of a release date? I'd love to try this out, even though I got an E-guitar recently. Could come in handy!

Any guitar attacks are welcome...
you can mail them to me directly if you don't have a place to put them.

Well Mokafix, I have to say that you have done a fine job of getting some pretty realistic guitar sounds from your synth, and that's quite a feat and and admirable job too. The problem I see is that these guitars don't sound like great sounding guitars. Meaning that you've managed to capture the sound of dull sounding guitars. I would love to hear some guitars that have fresh set of strings, instead of these dull and lifeless sounding guitars. I know this is much harder because I'm on a similar quest, but with the clearer, more biting sounding guitar sound you can EQ and effect it to get just about any other sound. I still think you've done great work here and I'd be proud to achive as much, but the guitars you are emulating COULD have a more vibrant sound, i.e., emulate great sounding guitars, not crappy sounding guitarts! Just my 2 cents, but I'm still impressed with what you HAVE achieved! All the best in your quest for fire!!!

In fact, my synth reproduces my yamaha guitar sound, the way i picked it. but if you give me any better guitar attack, picked maybe in a more interesting way (but still not too close to neck), i can reproduce it at any mic and pick position.

If you listen to the E string demos (the first ones), and compare them to my guitar (yamaha) E string mp3 (file0), you can notice it's really really close.

If you listen to music demos, you may find the higher notes are not really brilliant, wich is true and has a reason : I moved to china and made this synth the last weekend before leaving. i wanted to make a working version on last day, before packing, and so I just made a copy paste of the lower string (the one i have been working on), and just set each strings pitch values, in order to have a working demo to send to some friends.

So I really focused on the lower E string, and it's normal the other ones are less accurate, and way too muffled (obvious on the country music demos).

I hope when I have some more time, I can prove it by making sharper higher notes.

But I have no guitar here, so I'll need to wait for some people to send me some dry attacks as explained earlier.

But the logic is still almost perfect for mic/pick position.

I'll also probably add a "detune" factor, so that when you strike it hard, it starts a bit out of tune, wich is a part of that twangy sound, i think.

I agree that your synth sound is very close to your actual guitar sound, but obviously your actual guitar has old, dirty strings that give a dull lifeless sound (no offense). A new fresh set of strings would present a tone rich in harmonics and textures - which is also just that much more difficult to reproduce. The only place I ever hear that old, dirty string sound is on old-school jazz records. MOST of the guitar I hear is from an instrument with fresh clean bright sounding strings. And from THERE you can get a great sound running though EFX and such.

I don't mean to throw a monkey-wrench into your fine work, just an observation from someone who is also on this same path. I recently created a very realistic Rickenbacker bass tone and I am using the harmonic richness of that patch to create good acoustic and electric guitar sounds. Interesting how sometimes the single strings sound great but the actual played strings fall a little short, so the struggle continues for me.

PS - I think you can get best results using a synth with layering so you can morph the sound through time, also comes in handy when working on extreme lead guitar sounds with feedback and such. Just a thought.

The problem is I don't have guitar, so PLEASE :someone send me attacks from a very good guitar!

I won't add classic synth features such as morphing, as this one is a physical model. if you look at the waves and compare, you can see that not only it sounds close, but looks even closer.

There's something in the string that should make it evolve enough so that it doesn't sound to boring, even on long sustained notes ;-)

dammit i wish i had a guitar to help you...

maybe sites like http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/ might have a sample or two that helps?

Post

I'm affraid not. what i need is too precise :
Open attack of each string, with pick between neck and bridge, only one pickup on (bridge one), and no processing, only direct input.

Post

Alright man, tonight I will do some E1 bridge guitar samples. My guitar has humbucker at the bridge.

I do have a variax guitar, but using a digital emulation of a guitar to help create another digital emulation which is not supposed to emulate a digital emulation might be counterproductive.

Post

what i need (if you can) is :
guitar type focused : you play the 6 strings attacks of a given guitar one after the other (and mute the last one of course), in a single audio file.

scientific focus : I would really need a bridge single coil pickup sound and a neck single coil sound from the same guitar (only lower E string attack of each pickup would do it).

Thanks!

Post

And make sure you have a fresh set of strings on that guitar! :)

Seriously!

Post

You want each string sound isolated? I play an open low E then mute. I play open A then mute, etc.... is that correct?

Post

yep, exactly. you can let each string ring up to 4 seconds.
And if you find variax sound good enough, it's not a problem at all if you use it, as it's not really the same kind of emu as mine.
I you use the variax, I want only el guitar, and only bridge pickup if possible.

thank you so much !
