Me too ... I need AU ... mon ami, are you convinced yet your potential Mac market is screaming "AU! AU!"???? I'll assume you will post on KVR when the AU is made available, please don't delay! I'll be looking 4U!

Post

live uses vst AND au.

To be honest, I don't see what the big deal is. There's lots of good plugins from smaller developers who put out vsts exclusively, or who couldn't be bothered to update to AU when AU did take over as *the* OS X standard, and the vst-au adapter lets you take advantage of those plugins... it's not expensive. I totally understand why people are frustrated, but again, it's workable. People running Cubase are SOL when it comes to AU-only plugins, in contrast.

well they could also port it on DX as logic can use DX innit ?

Tracktion supports VST on Mac

Post

DX is windows only... didn't know about tracktion though.

Seems like the only AU-only apps are Logic/Garageband/Anything else from Apple and Digital Performer

Wrong. Rapture is also ported, and works great on Mac.

Been playing with the Demo in Live 6. Amazing sounds. Lots of bang for the buck. Will have to buy it before the price goes up. One suggestion- the Sequencer window is not very intuitive. Might try laying it out in a more visually descriptive fashion- say like a sequencer or timeline- maybe some other sequenceable events too- filter/Envelope/FM controls assigned to the sequencer? (unless i am missing something). All in all- very powerful and great presets.

i was waiting this osx update so long and it was huge disappointment to see theres no AU.... :(

Anyone here tested if its even working with fxpansions wrapper? Because ive heard that they dont support every vsti?

Post

the fxpansion adapter works with every vst i've tried to use it with... there are some issues with the wrapped vsts failing Apple's AUval test when Logic first scans them, but functionally they work perfectly fine. And, fxpansion's got a forum here so you can check on what people say about their products.

There's loads of older vst plugins that never made it to AU. Ex: the waldorf edition(ppg, attack, d-pole). If I want to use these in Logic, I can either bitch steinberg(the distributor) out, or spend a minimal amount on the wrapper. It's the cost of having your cake and eating it too.

Important thing to note: In order for registration of Toxix III to succeed on OSX, the user account must have administrator rights. I scratched my head for a while while trying to register, as I don't run as administrator on a regular basis, but had to temporarily change this to be able to register.

If you want to make a dent in the Mac market I would suggest RTAS or AU. Awsome plug, My studio assistant has it on his pc and I would glady buy it but we use Protoos and Logic like most of the professional market.
That really is the truth. An AU version is actually of more importance than having a VSTi version from a marketing standpoint if you think about it. Generally anything that sells well in TDM, RTAS, or AU format will nearly always sell even better in VSTi format.

So, yes, an universal binary version would be a smart idea if you want the product to sell well.
