I'm a new user of Zebra 2 and I'm just starting to attempt to wrap my head around programming it.

I'm having some difficulty simulating a VCA. It seems like I should be able to do this by modulating the volume of an osc with an envelope, right? I just can't seem to get it to respond the way I expect it to. Sometimes I get the ADS part responding correctly, then the release will appear to have no effect :?: .

Any programming tips for newbies out there?

Hey Urs, Love the sound of this synth! How about a pdf manual? My DAW isn't connected to the internet. :)

edit: OK, the init patch seems to have env 1 hardwired to it's volume level. Is this right? The patch I'm having difficulty with is a simple patch that started life as the init patch, but I have no control over volume using env 1... :help:

At the bottom of the module section (the four column grid) there are dropdown boxes for selecting an envelope that will act as a VCA. They will probably all have 'Envx' in there (x being a number between 1 and 4). Do you have that set to Env1?
Wish I had a screenshot to try to explain this better... sorry :-)

Thanks for that. I'll take a look when I get home tonight. Wouldn't that work the same as assigning env1 to modulate volume in the oscillator module?

Hiya, here's the VCA section:

There'll be a downloadable html-manual for offline reading shortly!

Yeah. There are a lot of different ways of setting up modulation, which is one of the things that makes Zebra so cool. You can setup amp modulation via:
a) The oscillator's volume mod.
b) The Voice Mix sections Volume mod.
c) The channel's volume envelope (the dropdown with env1,env2 etc.)

There is a ton of flexibility in there.

Thanks for the info, guys. I think I just had an "aha" moment when reading the page Urs linked. I'm pretty sure the patch I was tweaking had all voices set to "gate". That would be why my release wasn't working as expected. I'll mess with it some more tonight. :)

Ah... hehehehe, yeah... Gate is a hidden gem for saving envelopes on simple patches ;-)

Cheers,

;) Urs
